COMMUNITY RELATIONS AND LOCAL AFFAIRS MANAGER
Do you have the knowledge and experience to lead the Community Relations and Local Affairs Department of a major mining development? You will prepare and execute a strategy to manage external stakeholder engagement, relationships and expectations in support of the ongoing strategic objectives of the Project.
This role reports to the General Manager
Key competencies:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills - fluent in both English and Filipino (preferred but not essential)
• Tertiary qualification in social development or a related degree
• 10+ years experience in community relations and development in a multinational corporate setting within the mining, engineering, energy, or resources industry
• Experience in social involvement activities, crisis management, sustainability reporting, and stakeholder engagement at a senior level
• Thorough understanding of the cultural and socio-political landscape affecting mining in the Philippines
• Excellent ability to comprehend and manage complex and sensitive local communities, non-government organisations, church groups, and local, regional and national government units / agencies
• Expertise in working with external stakeholder groups to build and sustain a positive external profile for the Project
• Extensive project management experience with strong skills for design and implementation of action plans
Key relationships:
You will need to communicate the interests and relationships of the Company, internal and external professional and community stakeholder groups and departments
The Role:
1. Community Relations External – Design and execute a long term external community relations strategy within the Company’s Business Principals and Community Policy.
2. Community Relations Internal – Work closely with the other members of the leadership team to ensure consistency in practices and internal messages to the company. and in those required to be projected externally to key stakeholder groups.
3. Sustainable Community Development – Design and develop a sustainable community development strategy that will complement the Project’s various stages of operations through identification of appropriate social interventions and partnerships with local communities, agencies and stakeholders. Ensure that the Project delivers the expectations for community development under the Philippine Mining Act and other pertinent legal instruments.
4. Government Relations – Develop and maintain relationships with local and regional government bodies and ensure that regular information and communication programs are undertaken.
5. Team Membership – Participate as a key manager in the leadership group.
6. Team Leadership – Design, develop and lead an effective Community Relations and Local Affairs Team that will support the ongoing needs of the business as it progresses through the various project stages.
