Opportunity
Reporting to the District Manager, the District Engineer oversees the engineering and technical-related aspects of the various projects, such as roads, mines, structures and crushers, in a particular geographic location, ensuring operations are being conducted in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner, and are meeting quality standards.
District Engineer Role
• Responsible for reinforcing the company's objectives, goals and priorities which include the promotion and emphasis on a healthy and safe work environment.
• In conjunction with the District Manager, Senior Field and Project Staff, identify and assign necessary resources, both equipment and personnel, to ensure the successful administration of project and other district-based work.
• Assist with estimates and tender document preparation for bids.
• Complete and review monthly project cost reports, progress reports, schedules, safety and QC reports and provide updates to senior personnel accordingly.
• Assist with the preparation and review of "Expression of Interest" and "Pre-Qualification" documents and other proposals.
• Implement and monitor project cost control measures and tracking.
• Manage a budget of 20 million.
• Coordinate client meetings and monthly billings.
• Ensure conformance to Quality Management Systems.
• Manage project deliverables to client(s).
• Provide technical support to all projects including formwork design, temporary designs, haul analysis, etc.
• Assist the Quality Control Department to prepare necessary work procedures and NCR dispositions.
• Support and promote the company's Quality Assurance Program.
• Other duties as assigned.
District Engineer Experience and Skill Set Requirements
• A degree/diploma in Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• A minimum of 5 years experience working in a heavy civil construction environment with demonstrated progressive supervisory experience.
• Extensive knowledge of earthworks, concrete, formwork design, mining operations and a working knowledge of heavy equipment.
• Thorough understanding of preparing estimates, budgets and tracking costs.
• Strong administrative background including exceptional organizational, communication and people management skills.
• Strong computer skills are necessary, including an adequate knowledge of Microsoft Office, scheduling software such as Primavera, Microsoft Project as well as estimating software such as Bid2win, Hard Dollar, HCSS, etc.
• Experience in working in a unionized environment and within terms of a collective agreement(s).
• Knowledge of standard health, safety and environmental requirements and practices in the construction industry.
• A valid driver's license.
