PanAust Limited is an Australian-headquartered copper and gold producer in Laos, with pre-development and exploration assets in Laos, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea (PNG). The Company is focused on a sustainable business model associated with the production and sale of copper and gold, delivery of production goals and growth.


In Laos, PanAust owns a 90 per cent interest in the Lao-registered company, Phu Bia Mining Limited. The Government of Laos owns the remaining 10 per cent. Phu Bia Mining owns and operates PanAust’s Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation. This position is based at our Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation, which comprises an open-pit mine feeding ore to a process plant with recovery of copper and precious metals into a saleable concentrate using conventional flotation technology.

We offer an attractive salary package and roster for residential and fly in, fly out employees that includes travel in company time. This position is based at our Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation, located approximately 120km north of the Lao capital Vientiane. It is responsible for providing vision, leadership and management for the Phu Kham Copper-Gold operations Processing Department consisting of the crushing and concentrator operations, metallurgy and analytical laboratory sections.  The Manager will deliver superior technical and production processing operations outcomes to the business, ensuring the necessary departmental plans and resources align with the company goals and objectives. The role reports to a General Manager of Operations.


Your key responsibilities will include:


  • Lead and manage process plant operations in accordance with the cost and production plan, meeting safety, health and environmental operating requirements;
  • Continue to progress process plant automation philosophies and control systems to support and deliver the required throughput, recovery, concentrate quality and metal production outcomes.
  • Manage, recruit and develop departmental personnel to be capable and successful in their roles;
  • Provide the necessary training and succession planning for personnel to perform their roles and realise their full potential. 
  • Develop and implement improvements to the process plant operations for low cost, high metallurgical recovery and best overall plant performance;
  • Well defined, documented and executed geo-metallurgical programs in support of Budget and Life of Mine plans effectively debottlenecking and de-risking throughput, recovery and reagent limitations;
  • Identify, justify and implement continuous improvement initiatives targeting improved recovery, metal production and lower costs in a sustainable manner;
  • Review and track cost performance, identify and make the necessary changes to deliver superior cost outcomes;
  • Maintain and review departmental business operating model and processes are fit for purpose and application, documented and applied in the workplace;
  • Ensure high-quality documentation and reporting of improvement work programs;
  • Work closely and collaboratively with all functional areas and business partners for best of business outcomes;
  • Perform the role of Acting General Manager Operations when so appointed.


To be successful in this role, you will require:


  • A degree qualification in mineral processing or metallurgy;
  • Recent experience as a Process Manager or considerable experience at Superintendent level;
  • A significant background in flotation technology;
  • Previous expatriate experience with demonstrated success in developing a national workforce;
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Outstanding leadership ability;
  • Strong continuous improvement and strategic focus;
  • Unwavering commitment to safety;
