Description

Under general supervision, oversee slope stability management functions including pit slope, stockpile stability and serve as resource for Geomechanical information and analysis.
 
  • Overall property slope management functions for pit slopes, and stockpiles 
  • Manage and provide Geomechanical project oversight and review relating to outside consultants, pit slope water control, structural geology, design slope angles and interfacing with mine design and planning
  • Manage and review slope stability data collection, analysis and remedial work including slope monitoring data processing, rock strength parameters, geologic structures, slope control blast designs, and slope angle reviews
  • Communicate accurate, timely and relevant slope stability and Geomechanical information to mine and site personnel
  • Manage, conduct and communicate the results of inspections of pit walls, stockpiles and site access roads
  • Proactively seek improvements to the safe mining of mine reserves relating to slope monitoring, slope maintenance, slope and catch bench designs, blasting, Geomechanical data acquisition and analysis
  • Develop, maintain and implement strategic plans to enhance the mine's slope stability program
  • May represent the site on company sponsored steering teams related to Geomechanical or mine slope stability efforts
  • Usage of appropriate software (MS Office, AutoCAD) and Geotechnical data analysis, Mintec's MineSight (or equivalent)
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related Engineering discipline and five (5) years of Engineering experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability, OR
  • Master's degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related Engineering discipline and three (3) years of Engineering experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Mining, Mining Engineering and Geotechnical applications in a hard rock open pit mine environment
  • Skill in researching, analyzing and communicating information of considerable difficulty and develop appropriate conclusions and action plans
  • Skill in managing Engineering projects related to a hard rock open pit setting
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Understanding in the usage of appropriate software (MS Office, AutoCAD) and Geotechnical data analysis, Mintec's MineSight (or equivalent)
 
Preferred
 
  • Masters Degree in related fields
  • Experience with open pit and/or satelite radar monitoring systems
  • Experience with design conformance analysis
  • working knowledge of open pit slopt stability modeling software and methods
  • experienced leader and strong team player

  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature, humidity and high elevations, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 60 pounds) during the course of the workday
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
