PanAust Limited is an Australian-headquartered copper and gold producer in Laos, with pre-development and exploration assets in Laos, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea (PNG). The Company is focused on a sustainable business model associated with the production and sale of copper and gold, delivery of production goals and growth.


In Laos, PanAust owns a 90 per cent interest in the Lao-registered company, Phu Bia Mining Limited. The Government of Laos owns the remaining 10 per cent. Phu Bia Mining owns and operates PanAust’s Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation.


In Myanmar, PanAust holds an 80 per cent interest in Wuntho Resources Company Limited (WRCL) and has established a joint venture with Myanmar Energy Resources Group International Company Limited (MERG), a Myanmar-based company which holds the remaining 20 per cent of WRCL. WRCL holds exploration tenements covering roughly 775 square-kilometres in Myanmar's Sagaing region and has applied for additional Exploration Licences in the region.


In PNG, PanAust holds an 80 per cent interest in the Frieda River Copper-Gold Project. Frieda River is one of the largest known undeveloped copper and gold deposits in the world and offers PanAust excellent potential for the establishment of a world-class, long-life operation.

We offer an attractive salary package and roster for residential and fly in, fly out employees that includes travel in company time. Children’s education (if applicable) and housing allowance are included in the residential package. This position is based at our Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation, which comprises an open-pit mine feeding ore to a process plant with recovery of copper and precious metals into a saleable concentrate using conventional flotation technology.   



Reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, you will focus on the delivery of optimum mining schedule and earthwork designs at the Phu Kham Copper – Gold Mine. This will be achieved through efficient utilisation of mining equipment and upkeep of mine

Although this role has no direct reports, you will be required to provide strong technical support, coaching and mentoring to the relatively inexperienced, but very keen and willing, local Lao workforce. Your outstanding leadership and coaching skills will be critical to the ongoing development and performance of the relatively young, but very keen and willing, local Lao workforce. Your key responsibilities will include:


  • Preparation of medium-term, budget and LOM mine plans, designs, and schedules that are well aligned with company long-term strategies and targets
  • Building all necessary components to run a good and reliable mining schedule (i.e., pit stages, production profile assumptions, fleet capacities) and Drill and Blast Processes
  • Continue to develop and refine of mine planning and design policies, standards, and procedures specific to PKM operations
  • Training of graduate and junior mining engineers
  • Maintenance of and further development of tools for the measurement of planning performance and plan compliances across all aspects of the business


To be successful in this role, you will require:


  • A degree qualification in Mining Engineering with considerable experience as a senior engineer in open cut operations
  • Strong planning and analytical skills
  • The ability of effectively communicate to all levels of the organizational hierarchy
  • Expertise in Surpac, MineSched software is an advantage
  • The ability to think outside the box
  • Highly motivated, self-driven and an excellent team player
  • Good leadership ability, with a commitment to developing our National employees
  • Unwavering commitment to safety
