Smelter Operations Manager - Surabaya Indonesia

This position will be located in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia

Accountable for the Operational leadership over the Manyar Smelter ensuring safe, productive and cost efficient management of the operation of the Smelter in accordance with the agreed long-term strategic objectives for the Operation. 

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the delivery of the agreed targets for the Smelter work stream in the areas of People, Safety, Production and Financial performance.  Supervises, enhances and monitors designated operational practices for the site, reporting to the Site General Manager of Smelter Operations.
  2. Lead a Team of Operation Superintendents in providing technical support and direction to the operational department within PTFI’s new smelter. Ensures direct reports and departmental teams have clear and specific goals to support the downstream operation. Ensures appropriate knowledge and training programs for direct reports.
  3. Responsible for the execution of the Production forecasts in accordance with the agreed commercial sales agreements in place with customers and investors.
  4. Responsible for the development and execution of integrated planning activities between Operations, Maintenance and Technical Services disciplines as it relates to the Smelter.
  5. Cultivate an inclusive, diverse and high effective team culture at the Smelter by living the example of leadership outlined above.
  6. Develop and nurture a transformative culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team along with a disciplined risk-based approach to change management, including representing the site on company sponsored teams, such as transformation office Agile Teams.
  7. Working with the Maintenance group, hold accountability for the development and execution of the overall asset strategy for the Smelter.
  8. Contribute where required, to managing a positive reputation for the Smelter with all relevant external stakeholders including local community groups, local and federal governments and the relevant regulatory bodies.
  9. Responsible for the efficient and safe operation of processing and administrative facilities that produce projected amounts of smelted minerals in compliance with processing production schedules and cost budgets.
  10. Thorough working knowledge of the regulatory framework and ensure that all operational activities are compliant with the regulatory and permitting process.
  11. Accountable for all ‘non-process’ related infrastructure operations to ensure minimal disruption and interference to the refining operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering or related field and ten (10) years of progressive operational managerial experience.
  • Prior major operations and/or start-up experience is preferred.
  • Large scale operations experience ideally in a Pyrometallurgical environment.
  • Integrated Strategic Planning experience in a complex work environment.  
  • Exposure to managing the external interface with key stakeholders. 
  • Technical management experience – pyrometallurgical circuits, chemical engineering, fixed plant maintenance.
  • People leadership experience of a large workforce – of both employees and contractors.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Financial acumen – cost center ownership.
  • Skilled in managing effective communication throughout all levels of the organization, both verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Business Administration (MBA) or similar.
