Description

Highly skilled mechanic who safely perform diagnostic, maintenance, instillation, and repair of equipment and systems in the underground shaft conveyances, level stations and hoisting apparatus.

 

  • Perform component diagnostic, replacement, installation and repairs on, but not limited to areas and systems within the shaft which includes: conveyances, all level stations, hoisting systems and cages (types of maintenance of the hoisting system could include slick line, rope and liner changes, ext.)
  • Perform mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance on hoisting systems including monthly hoist systems PM, semi-annual hoist PM, and annual hoist PM
  • Prioritize and make decisions regarding equipment repair as needed
  • Perform shaft and equipment inspections including safety checks on the shaft, rope, clamps, shoes, rollers and other components
  • Train and mentor other employees
  • Required to act as Relief Hoist Operator
  • Complete work area inspections and housekeeping duties
  • May perform avalanche control duties and snow removal activities which could include operating snow plows and blowers
  • Act as a Relief Supervisor as needed
  • May operate equipment such as: light duty vehicles, front-end loaders, track hoes, snow plows, and motor graders
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Two (2) years of experience in mine shaft mechanical/maintenance or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance
  • Required to pass hoist operator examination – required by federal government, certified by MSHA
  • Must be able to receive and maintain Explosive Possessor Certification through BATF
  • Ability read and use schematics and blue prints
  • Time management skills

Preferred
  • High School diploma or GED

Criteria/Conditions
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms
  • Occasionally may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the work day
  • May be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

Pay Range:

$31.75-$37.80/Hourly

Rate of pay dependent on competency, experience, qualifications and skills
