Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Data Scientist with experience in surface mining and processing operations to join their team based at their Gauteng head office.

Responsibilities:

• Data analysis, processing, modelling and interpretation for the creation of actionable plans for all sites across the region.
• Stakeholder liaison to identify problems and opportunities for data-driven solutions, driving innovation and the implementation of creative solutions.
• Collecting, cleaning and manipulating large datasets to extract insights and generate predictive models.
• Utilizing advanced statistical and machine learning to build and deploy models capable of accurate predictions to provide suitable recommendations.
• Providing reports, visualization and presentations to stakeholders on findings.
• Develop scalable and efficient data pipelines and workflows.
• Continuous improvement of models and algorithms.
• Remaining abreast of data science and machine learning technologies and providing recommendations on adoption of these within the business.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering – Industrial, Chemical, Process, Metallurgical, Electrical or similar.
• Post graduate qualification in data science preferred.
• 5 years previous experience in data science for surface mining and processing operations.
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of machine learning algorithms.
• Well-versed in various programming languages and data visualization tools.
• Previous experience in the deployment of machine learning within production environments.
• Experience with database technologies and warehousing.
• Strong skills in data analysis, manipulation, cleaning and wrangling.
• Able to produce reports and presentations in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Projects).
• Medically fit to be able to pass mine site medical examinations.
