Metallurgical Superintendent

Company Overview

Teranga is a Canadian-based gold company which operates the only gold mine and mill in Senegal, West Africa.  Gold production is expected to average about 200,000 ounces annually at all-in sustaining costs in the lowest (best) quartile of industry costs allowing the Company to generate strong free cash flows. Beyond the Company’s mine plan are significant opportunities for organic growth through further exploration discoveries on its 246km² Mine License and highly prospective 1,055km² regional exploration package – located on an emerging gold belt.


This is a fly-in/ fly-out role: 8 weeks on / 4 weeks off roster with travel in company time or 6/3 roster with travel on employee's time.

 

Summary of Role

 

The Metallurgical team is responsible for optimization of the gold recovery process through processing plant optimisation and effective cost management. The Metallurgical Superintendent will lead the metallurgy section by providing support to other Departments across site when required to ensure the productivity objectives are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

 

·         OH&S – Maintain and support the principles of the safety and environmental policies

·         Production – Ensure gold production targets are met or exceeded in a safe and efficient manner by optimising gold recovery processes

·         Technical Support – Implement key operating parameters for the plant and provide systems by which these parameters can be monitored and maintained by the team

·         Staff Development – Provide technical input for the departmental training programs and ensure all employees have the opportunity to learn and apply skills that are aligned with company objectives

·         Leadership – Offer staff members direction and guidance, provide technical and practical solutions to operational challenges and supervise the metallurgical laboratory

·         Continuous Improvement – Provide a formal process for evaluating achievements against performance objectives, drive improvement projects and action identified areas for improvement

·         Cost Control - Maintain an effective metal accounting system, participate in departmental budget compilation and cost control initiatives, provide consumption guidelines for the team and monitor reagents and other consumables.

 

Skills and Experience Required

·    10 years’ relevant professional work experience in mineral processing, with a minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience in a developing country (ideally in Africa)

·    Prior experience required on all facets of gold plant maintenance, process control systems, mining methods and challenges and conversant in mineral geology

·    Possess a formal metallurgy qualification - BEng or BSc Chemical Engineering, Minerals Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy or equivalent

·    Strong leadership, collaboration, relationship building and project leadership skills

·    Demonstrated people management experience including ability to coach and mentor team members of diverse backgrounds

·    Strong computer and Microsoft office skills with proficient database experience

·    Demonstrated operational experience with SABC grinding, gravity recovery, CIL and AARL elution circuits

·    Awareness of relevant dangerous goods legislation, locally and selected international codes and cyanide code

·    French language skills are an asset but not required
