Fixed Plant & Mechanical Workshop Superintendent

To manage the personnel and activities of the Mechanical Workshop Section of the Maintenance Department to ensure that the repair, maintenance and modification services for all of the Plant’s mechanical components are effective and productive. Reporting into the Engineering & Services Manager, the role will work in conjunction with the maintenance and planning execution teams. The role will be accountable for rendering support services to the maintenance teams. A strong emphasis of this role will be around continuous improvement in the safety leadership space and promoting a positive work culture.

  • Provide leadership and direction to all employees, developing and maintaining a high standard in relation to safety and performance management.
  • Direct management of Workshops to ensure that the rebuilding, machining, welding, fabrication and utilities requirements are effectively and productively delivered.
  • Contribute to the achievement of production, quality, environment, equipment utilization, reliability and overall equipment efficiency (OEE) targets.
  • Extensive knowledge of primary crushing, milling (high throughput SAG and Ball mills), flotation and dewatering unit operations.
  • Ensure all process plant projects are accomplished per approved parameters and specification: including managing contractors working on these projects and coordinating liaison with operations personnel.
  • Co-ordinate and plan improvement projects to optimize plant performance.
  • Coaching, mentoring and managing a team of over 30 direct reports.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree/Diploma/Trade in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Competent to produce, interpret and work with PID/process layout, engineering and fabrication drawings.
  • Minimum of 10 years post trade with extensive experience in process plant environment and exposure to maintenance management systems.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and certification of mobile and overhead cranes will be added advantage.

Skills Required:

  • Excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Significant leadership experience with proven history of process plant and/ or workshops management and the ability to create a safety and positive work culture.
  • Strong computer skills; and high proficiency in working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Pronto, SAP or others.
  • Self-motivated, ambitious and resilient with a history of successful team leadership and goal achievement.
