Reporting to the Power Plant Operations Superintendent the Operations Day Shift Supervisor will be responsible for operation of all plant equipment per established operational procedures and good industry practices to help ensure that the highest possible levels of safety, availability and reliable output are maintained by the power plant facility as a whole.

Role and Responsibilities:

Power Plant Operations - Day Shift Supervisor's duties and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Perform all duties assigned in a safe and professional manner. Assume a lead role in ensuring the safety of all plant personnel and equipment by adhering to plant safety program and good operating practices both in letter and in spirit.
  • Working under the direction of the Startup and Commissioning Manager take a lead role in the safe and efficient startup and commissioning of the entire power plant.
  • Direct responsibility for coordination of operations department personnel in support of startup activities as requested by Commissioning Manager. As startup work progresses assume operational responsibility for systems as they are brought on line and placed in normal operation.
  • Responsible for operation of all plant equipment per established operational procedures and good industry practices to help ensure that the highest possible levels of safety, availability and reliable output are maintained by the power plant facility as a whole.
  • Assist with coordination of training activities to provide hands on operational experience with all systems as soon as reasonably achievable.
  • Following successful startup and commissioning of the plant shift of primary responsibility to the role of Operations Day Shift Supervisor in direct charge of day shift operations. Monitor and control all operational activities during your assigned shift.
  • As lead Shift Supervisor assume primary responsibility for monitoring plant equipment and operations personnel performance across all shifts on a daily basis. This includes review of Operator Logs and performance data supplied by control and monitoring systems to spot any deterioration of plant or operations personnel performance.
  • Lead role in ensuring all operations personnel perform their duties according to established operational and safety procedures. Establish and maintain system to document the routine monitoring of operations personnel activities in regard to safety and procedure compliance.
  • Primary interface with maintenance department supervisors, schedulers and planners to prioritize maintenance activities and coordinate these activities with the operations department to minimize down time and increase overall plant reliability.
  • Lead role in coordinating and implementing all Operations Department activities related to outages or special projects.
  • Provide primary backup coverage for Operations Superintendent during vacations, rotations and other periods when Ops Supt is off duty.
  • Assist with financial performance of Operations Department as it relates to preparation of annual budget, cost control implementation, and planning for both routine work and special projects.
  • Assist with maintaining the quality and performance of all department activities at a level appropriate for an asset of critical importance to corporate financial performance.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Excellent understanding of the operational requirements for a large plant process or utility scale power plant particularly in regards to safety, reliability, and dispatched operation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a leadership role for the startup and commissioning activities related to new construction or extensive rebuilds of utility scale power plants of this size and complexity.
  • 5 years or more satisfactory experience as a power plant Operations Shift Supervisor.
  • 10 years or more hands on experience as a power plant operator including time spent as a Control Room Unit Operator.
  • Experience with switching and operation of high voltage systems and equipment required.
  • Current professional licenses such as Licensed Boiler Operator highly preferred.
  • Higher level Safety certifications highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with digital control systems required.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Previous extended tours of work in man camp/remote access locations.
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, scheduling, and work planning programs of some type.
  • Good English communication skills; Spanish working knowledge as a minimum, fluency preferred.
  • Experience working within multi-cultural environments a definite plus.
