The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross operations and projects worldwide. Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT and Investor Relations.

Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, the role supports Kinross’ planning, operations reporting and capital management processes. 

This role is responsible for supporting Kinross’ budgeting process, including preparation of consolidated budgets and forecasts, analysis to support the validity of the budgeted / forecasted results, analysis of actual results against budget and other ad hoc analysis. The role will work closely with the Financial Reporting and Operations groups to ensure the timely and accurate flow of information from the sites. This role will also assist in supporting the finance departments at the sites as it relates to the budgeting and forecasting, monthly and quarterly reporting, application of corporate policies, processes and controls and other finance related issues. 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Budgeting and Forecasting
  1. Prepare consolidated budgets and forecasts by working with the regions and sites to ensure submissions are timely and accurate and understanding the business drivers behind the budgeted results
  2. Perform analysis of the budgeted and forecasted results, including an understanding of risks and opportunities in order to facilitate senior management review and the setting of public market guidance


  1. Monthly and Quarterly Analysis / Reporting
  1. Prepare reporting and analysis for internal distribution, including review with senior management, that will enable stakeholders to understand results and key issues
  2. Work with regional and site personnel to gain an understanding of results and raise key issues to the attention of management
  3. Provide analysis to support the financial reporting and investor relations groups, as well as the company’s external auditors  in the preparation of the MD&A and quarterly release


  1. Capital Management
  1. Administer the capital approval system to ensure timely processing of capital requests
  2. Support the Capital Committee by producing routine and ad hoc reporting and analysis on capital management and execution


  1. Other Project Work

Working with the Director of Finance Planning and Analysis on projects to continuously improve processes in areas of responsibility noted above, including working with the consolidations team to automate reporting from information systems, identifying and acting on gaps in current processes and controls, adapting models to ensure maximum flexibility and working with internal stakeholders to ensure that their needs are met.

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate university degree in business or engineering
  • Working towards a Professional accounting designation or comparable financial training                                                                                                                                 


  • 2+ years of related work experience with resource sector experience preferred 


  • Strong analytical mind, asks questions, understands financial relationships, strong interest in learning the mining industry.
  • Consistently seeks opportunities for improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of processes – does not settle for the status quo
  • Excellent Excel skills and experience with financial modelling
  • Basic understanding of accounting/IFRS
  • Understanding of information systems as will be involved in improving processes relating to KARS (Kinross Advanced Reporting System), JD Edwards, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as required to interact with senior management, prepare written analysis and obtain information from regions, sites and corporate personnel
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with ability to work independently and to establish priorities with minimal supervision
  • Ability to be flexible with regards to tasks required
  • Adherence to the highest ethical standards, demonstrating honesty, integrity, and transparency in actions at all times
