Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Senior Mine Shift Supervisor, supports efforts of the supervisor by developing production assignments, supervising portions of the production crew, and completing the necessary reports.  Incumbent will occasionally provide training for professional technical personnel seeking career advancement in production management while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Assign crews and equipment to specific tasks in order to meet daily mine production goals.
  2. Supervise crew activities during shifts to ensure safe and efficient accomplishment of assignments.
  3. Develop crew skills to levels of maximum efficiency and safety.
  4. Manage the dispatch system for optimal resources utilization.
  5. Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
  6. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  7. Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  8. Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  9. Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  10. Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by state agency, or must be able to pass driver competency course and exam.
  11. Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  12. Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
  • Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing work processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • Requires careful attention to planning to reduce inefficiencies.
  • Must be able to recognize and implement safety procedures to provide a safe working environment while meeting production guidelines.
  • Must possess the ability to supervise and motivate people.
  • Must know or have the ability to learn to manage the dispatch system.
  • Engineering Degree preferred.
  • Requires three years of heavy equipment operating experience in a mining or construction environment.
  • Must have at least one year’s direct supervisory experience, or adequate supervisory training.
  • Requires valid driver’s license.
