Job Description

The Consolidation Analyst participates in the data collection, review and consolidation of Kinross’ monthly financial results, including income statement, balance sheet, cash flow and operational metrics. Responsible for processing and documenting restatement entries as required. The Kinross consolidation and reporting encompasses approximately 200 legal entities, using a WEB based consolidation system, SAP’s Business Planning and Consolidation tool. In addition to performing consolidations, KARS (Kinross Advanced Reporting System) is used to collect and report management/operational metrics and budget/forecast comparisons. The Consolidation Analyst reports to the Director KARS and Consolidations.

Job Responsibilities

  • To develop an understanding of data flows from site ERP systems through to KARS in order to ensure accurate consolidated results and to incorporate newly acquired entities into the month end closing process.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, testing, and rollout of changes to the KARS application to meet ongoing reporting requirements.
  • Review cash flow movements on a YTD basis to ensure accuracy and consistency from month to month.
  • Review mine site operational data monthly for reasonability and completeness. Investigate issues and co-ordinate with site finance personnel to ensure accurate data.
  • Follow up and resolve KARS data validation issues on a monthly basis.
  • Provide support to sites and internal users on KARS functionality and related enhancements.
  • Assist sites and regional controllers in remediating intercompany imbalances, determining resolution of complex accounting issues, or explaining unusual balances and fluctuations.
  • Complete consolidating financial statements note for guarantor reporting.
  • Maintain documentation and audit support for entries posted in KARS for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.  
  • Participate in KARS enhancement efforts, including system upgrades.
  • Participate in finance Business Process Optimization (BPO) initiative to standardize business processes on a global basis and establish ERP master data requirements.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors.
  • Complete quarterly analysis on a consolidated basis of PPE, debt, cash flow and other items for management review.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis as required

Education and Experience

University graduation or diploma
Additional specialized education of up to 4 years’


5 – 8 years of related work experience

Formal professional or technical registration in appropriate area of expertise
A professional accounting designation is required for this position
An ideal candidate will have post-qualification experience working with a consolidation accounting system
Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented
Ability to work with others in a team environment
Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments
Ability to organize and prioritize job duties

Language Requirements
Knowledge of Spanish, Russian or French would be an asset

Additional Skills
In depth understanding of Kinross’ processes a definite asset
Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
Ability to learn quickly
The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the corporation is essential
Strong analytical skills
Ability to work effectively under pressure
Knowledge of IFRS
Proficiency in MS Excel
Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to work the flexible hours required to meet reporting deadlines
