Mine Manager - MCM

Reporting to the General Manager, the Mine Manager will be responsible for the leadership and management of the mining technical team, including mine planning, geology and survey and near mine mineral resource development.


Location: Akjoujt  Site: MCM

Mauritanian Copper Mines SA is an established open-pit copper and gold operation. The role will be FIFO on a 6/2 roster. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that safety, health and environmental legal and company standards are complied with, emphasizing safety as a top priority, acting as a role model to staff.
  • Enforce performance targets and measures and use systems to assess the performance of the mine and direct reports; reviewing progress to ensure achievement of targets and develop strategies for increasing productivity.
  • Management and leadership of mining technical staff, their work, time and efficiencies.
  • Oversight and continuous improvement of ore control, production and reconciliation functions.
  • Preparation and management of mining department operating and capital budgets.
  • Grade control model development – reconciliation and block size.
  • Dilution minimisation.
  • Optimising mining methods to suit equipment
  • Blast control and pit floor management.
  • Geotechnical wall stability.
  • Pre-splitting and elimination of blast damage to all pit walls – batters and berms
  • Lead the development of strategic and short term mine planning with alignment to relevant geology and mineral resource optimizations.
  • Train, mentor and develop technical staff.

 

The appointee will have:

  • Minimum 10 years appropriate experience including at least 5 years in a senior production role.
  • A recognized geoscience tertiary qualification.
  • Membership of a Recognized Overseas Professional Organisation (ROPO).
  • Well-entrenched safety and quality principles.
  • Proven technical and managerial abilities relevant to mine production.
  • Ability to lead and work in a team; the mining team and the wider site team.
  • A high level of scientific and analytical ability.
  • Proven high levels of integrity and a reputation for the same.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The candidate will be self-motivated, ambitious and resilient with a history of successful team leadership and goal achievement.
