Based in Mauritania, Kinross Tasiast is set to become one of the great gold finds of our generation. It is the first mine in a highly prospective greenstone belt, located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored.

Job Description

The Instrumentation & Process Control Specialist will provide leadership, field support, technical assistance and training of the plant electrical and instrumentation technicians at the Tasiast Mine Site, in Mauritania, Africa. This role will be a hands on role supporting to the instrumentation and control systems to maintain the plant operations efficiently. To follow established policies, practices and procedures when completing work assignments. To provide work direction to the Instrument / process control teams. To maximize operational efficiencies, safety, and profitability to cultivate exceptional stakeholder value while ensuring employee satisfaction.

Job Responsibilities

1. Maintain Plant Control System and Instrumentation

• Insure maintenance is carried out correctly on process plant Instrumentation and control systems

• Answers queries and requests related to instrumentation / process control which includes problem solving and judgment

• Calibration of instrumentation including Belt scales, Radiation level, Radiation densities, Cyanide Analyser, pressure transmitters, Level transmitters etc.

• Provide programing changes, updates and backups for the control system using Wonderware InTouch and Unity Pro.

• Complete documentation related to instrumentation and control systems including calibration reports, trend information etc.

• Assists with design and installation of minor upgrade projects related to instrumentation / process control

• Monitors, analyzes, and implements changes to ensure maintenance is preventative, predictive, and proactive

• Mentor and train National employees on operating standards, procedures and methods

 

2. To provide faultfinding and technical support for plant Instrumentation and Control system

• Addresses queries and resolves issues for internal customers while ensuring service standards are met

• Ensures internal customers comply with company policy and procedures and regulations in instrumentation / process control

• Provides training to internal customers as needed 

• Prepares communication materials, manuals and other written materials related to instrumentation / process control

3. To train and provide work direction to the instrumentation team

• Directs the activities of a team including defining and delegating work assignments 

• Acts as a communication linchpin with the team and models the organization’s values

• Contributes to the development and revision of policies and procedures for the instrumentation / process control team

• Lead a team of Mauritanian technicians / electricians

• Ensure knowledge transfer and training to the national workforce

• Support a nationalization plan that includes the ultimate nationalization of this role

• Support a goal based competency system in a structured and formalized progression program for National employees

• Set clear expectations for the instrumentation and process control teams

• Hold the teams fully accountable for their performance

Education and Experience

Must have Qualifications and Experience 

• Instrumentation Trade Certificate

• Programing and fault finding experience using In Touch and Unity Pro   

• Must be able to communicate effectively, including the ability to document according to engineering best practices

• Ability to program PLC’s

• Familiar with most known industrial automation communication protocol (Modbus, EithernetIP, Canopen), in addition to standard TCP/IP network skills

• 10 years minimum of related work experience

Desired Qualifications and Experience

• Electrical Trade o Engineering

• Complete understanding of mine and maintenance operations including large Mills

• Experience with Fibre Optics

• Experience calibrating and maintaining Belt Scales
