Analyst - Corporate Development

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross operations and projects worldwide. Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT and Investor Relations.

Job Description

The goal of the Corporate Development Team at Kinross is to identify, assess and execute business-enhancing corporate transactions (including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and equity investments involving mining assets or related infrastructure) that are in keeping with Kinross’ broader corporate strategy.

The purpose of this role is to support the Corporate Development team in achieving these goals through financial modeling, research and analysis and other tasks in support of the evaluation and execution of corporate transactions and capital markets activities.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Maintenance of various financial models and reports, including the corporate model and the equity investment portfolio
  2. Financial modeling in conjunction with the Life of Mine models and discounted cash flow analysis
  3. Assist with the management of financial and technical due diligence processes in the evaluation of potential opportunities
  4. Analysis and interpretation of technical and financial information including financial filings,  technical studies and industry reports
  5. Management of the M&A blackout list
  6. Development of internal documentation and presentations including business proposals to Senior Management and the Board of Directors
  7. Review and maintain internal documentation and procedures
  8. Research information to support decision making and improve processes, methodologies, including development of operational or financial tools
  9. Contribution to special projects and ad hoc analysis, as required, including assisting with Investor Relations related work

Scope of Responsibility & Complexity

Work is complex involving both routine tasks and unique projects. In all cases the Analyst is expected to ensure assigned projects are completed on-time, and to a high standard. Where appropriate, it is expected that the analyst will identify, evaluate and implement modifications to projects, plans and procedures in response to needs

Education and Experience

  • Quantitatively oriented undergraduate University degree (Commerce/Business, Engineering)
  • 3-5 years of related work experience
  • Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation would be considered an asset, but not required
  • Advanced knowledge of all MS Office programs, including an advanced level of proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Well organized, works well independently and in team settings, possesses good time-management skills, and is able to work effectively under pressure
  • Dedication to continuous learning
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Previous experience in the mining sector or other heavy industries  

Advanced finance education (such as enrollment in the CSC or CFA)
