This position is responsible for the co-ordination and acquisition of purchasing activities primarily for low spend and/or low risk Materials Categories.  The main objective of the position is to ensure effective purchasing and delivery of goods that supports compliance of Kinross policies, procedures, contracts and commercial conditions.

Key to this role will be working with Contract Administrators to rationalize the Supplier base through consolidation, identify new opportunities and actively seeking and applying new ways to improve efficiencies and end user customer service levels and support.

This role will establish and maintain productive administrative working relationships with nominated suppliers, end users, Site Procurement and other internal Kinross Supply Chain Management personnel.

Reporting to the Materials Purchasing Manager, the Buyer will be responsible for tendering processes, bid analysis, recommendations and raising purchase orders for inventory and consumable items accurately and in a timely manner.

Operational Duties and Role Expectations:

  • Provide purchasing support for User Departments as assigned through the creation and enhancing of new and existing relationships with suppliers.
  • Obtain competitive quotes from suppliers, ensuring the item is of quality, easily accessible and of a competitive price
  • Place and administer routine and medium risk purchase orders (e.g. project purchases, engineered items, drilling material, stock replenishment orders).
  • Establish and rationalize Key Supplier Agreements, identify new opportunities, seek ways to improve efficiencies and ensure purchasing compliance.
  • Work with customers and suppliers as needed to clarify requisition requirements and specifications.
  • Prepare request of information/proposal/quotation documents, bid tabulations, recommendation for award.
  • Interrogate materials purchases not covered by existing Forward Purchasing Agreements (FPA) contracts.
  • Ensure proper terms and conditions are included on all purchase orders.
  • Negotiate with suppliers on various commercial and operational matters related to purchase orders.
  • Analyze purchasing usage trends and monitor the purchase order delivery cycle time.
  • Provide status information on all outstanding requisitions.
  • Assist with project purchasing activities ensuring orders are consistent with purchasing policies and philosophies.
  • Coordinate material movements from suppliers with Expeditors, Logistics Team and or freight forwarders.
  • Provide prompt and efficient service and direct any enquiries to the appropriate department / person
  • Produce weekly/monthly reports showing vendor’s performance against agreed KPIs by contract.

Études et expérience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive experience in procurement and/or Business Administration.
  • Knowledge of contracting principles
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and high level communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills including negotiation and dispute resolution skills
  • Experience in planning, organizing, prioritizing and coordinating work in a changing environment
  • Able to read, write and speak English.
  • Skilled in using personal computer and various software packages.
  • Ability to establish priorities and work independently.
  • Ability to investigate and problem solve.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on shipment volume and priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Courteous, diplomatic and able to work within tight response deadlines.
  • Possess a pro-active “can do” attitude
