Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in Nevada. It is the newest mine in Kinross’ portfolio and was acquired in January 2016.

Job Description

The Procurement Coordinator is responsible for all the contractual agreements pertaining to the procurement of materials or services that support the business efforts of KG Mining (Bald Mountain). This position is responsible for the entire lifecycle of the contract. The Procurement Coordinator will work closely with Kinross Global Supply Chain as well as Bald Mountain Materials Superintendent, site management and Kinross legal departments (Regional & Corporate).

The Procurement Coordinator will work closely with the Bald Mountain Supply Chain team to develop and implement best practices and efficiencies for procurement processes. This position will also assist with purchasing materials and services for projects taking place on the mine site, developing and maintaining FPAs, and managing the price catalog in JD Edwards.


Job Responsibilities

  1. Directs activities in conjunction with the Materials Superintendent concerning contracts for the purchase of materials, products or services: Examines performance requirements, delivery schedules, estimates of costs of materials, equipment and production to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  2. Prepares bid documents, process specifications, test and progress reports (as applicable), and other exhibits that may be required.
  3. Reviews bids for conformity to contract requirements and determines acceptability of each bid.
  4. Negotiates contract with successful bidder(s).
  5. Advises applicable departments (with KG Mining (Bald Mountain)) of contractual rights and obligations.
  6. Compiles data for preparing quote requests.
  7. Verify that the Contractor or Vendor complies with all the terms and conditions of the contract documents.
  8. Verify Contractor performance for purposes of payment.
  9. Meet with Contractor on regular basis to review progress, discuss problems and negotiate change order costs.
  10. Ensure that all services have been received in compliance with specifications prior to authorizing payments.
  11. Identify breaches of contract.
  12. Ensure the collection, review and maintenance of any/all required certificates of insurance and performance bonds.
  13. Verify all parties have fulfilled their contractual obligations.
  14. Determine and identify “lessons learned” for future contracting.
  15. Validates that all deliverables (including reports) have been received and accepted.
  16. Makes certain that any/all contract oversight issues have been resolved.
  17. Verifies that final payment has been made.
  18. Confirm that all inventory and property issues are resolved and final acceptance of goods/services has been approved by Project Manager or applicable Operational Manager.
  19. Request Pricing from suppliers (or solicit competitive bids if applicable) to develop Pricing Agreements
  20. Monitor and action contract expiry dates
  21. Order placement of materials and services.
  22. Expedite and trace orders until delivery is complete or canceled.
  23. Research alternate sources and pricing to control costs.
  24. Maintain excellent vendor and department relations.

Education and Experience

  1. Strong background in contract administration and procurement is required.
  2. Professional certification in Contract Management or related Supply Chain field preferred.
  3. Candidates should have 5 to 10 years’ experience as a contract administrator or related procurement field.
  4. Must have strong leadership, negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word & Access)
  6. Proficiency with ERP systems (preferably JD Edwards) as well as the ability to use company mandated contractual templates.
