Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Finance Manager and Deputy Finance Manager this position is responsible to coordinate activities related to Mauritanian and IFRS compliance including monthly closing, quarterly and annual reporting, support tax compliance activities, working with local and foreign auditors, interfacing with government officials as required in support of tax matters, SOX / internal control compliance.  etc.  To contribute to the design and development of processes, practices and methodologies in accounting. 

Job Responsibilities

The role will have responsibility for the following: 
- timely closing activities and accurate financial statements preparation in both USD & local currency in compliance with IFRS, SEC and Mauritanian GAAP, respectively; 
- Oversees the accounting team including review of work, ensuring adherence to procedures and training and development; 
- compliance support for tax, government filings and other compliance reporting requiring financial data, including interface with government auditors and other government officials; 
- support, coordination and primary contact for the various financial, tax and compliance audits related to financial data; 
- preparation of quarterly Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) and related disclosures; 
- adequate application and maintenance of financial controls under Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX); 
- timely completion and/or review of routine account reconciliations;
- completion and/or review of non-routine financial analysis requests from management at site, at the regional office and the corporate headquarters;
- Assist in the management of the finance and accounting team;
- Ensure all accounting judgments and entries include the proper supporting documentation as required for IFRS, local GAAP and tax; 
- Other Ad hoc work and support activities as required. 

Education and Experience

Legislative Requirements: Mauritanian work permit is required 

Language Requirements: Ability to communicate effectively in English and French. Knowledge of Arabic is a plus.   

Special Skills: 
-5 to 10 years Big 4 accounting firm experience; 
-5 years of related mining industry experience;    
-Experienced in developing and implementing new processes; 
-Experience in West African countries is a plus; 
-Knowledge of accounting guidance, i.e., International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), SEC, Sarbanes-Oxley; 
-Knowledge of accounting rules based on the French system;
-Previous team management experience;
-Computer input and processing skills, including proficiency with Complex Accounting Software (ERP), Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and Outlook; 
-Ability to complete all assigned tasks proficiently, in a timely manner; 
-Ability to develop strategies for continuous improvement in the admin and accounting fields; 
-Actively seeks mentorship and learning to improve technical knowledge and skills; 
-Must establish and change priorities quickly and be able to perform day-to-day duties with no supervision;
-Ability to learn quickly;
-High analytical skills;
-Ability to work in an international team environment;
-Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented;
-Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments, versatile;
-Ability to organize and prioritize job duties;
-Must be able to effectively communicate and influence with a variety of people at all levels, internally and externally. 
-Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting;
-Master’s level degree and / or Globally Recognized
-Accounting Designation.
