Senior HSE Manager (SHE Manager / ISO / MHSA / Mining / Projects) – DRC, Central Africa

Job Description:

Our client is currently undertaking a major project in the DRC for the construction of a hydrometallurgical plant and associated infrastructure and is seeking qualified project personnel to join their team. This exciting copper-cobalt project is one of the largest in Africa and will provide employment opportunities for many experienced individuals in the industry. The Senior HSE Manager will directly report into the Project Director.

Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic leadership in SHE by anticipating current and future risks and mitigating these. In particular identify safety, occupational health and environmental risks across the project packages and escalate issues and risks that impact other areas of the project
• Develop and implement the SHE strategy that includes building a behavioral based safety culture
• Provide strategic direction and manage the SHE portfolio of professionals including the Project Manager Safety & Health, Project Manager Environmental and the Public Relations Officer
• Conduct regular project and statutory reports
• Contribute to the overall success of the project by leading the SHE Continuous Improvement within the company
• Review annual capital plans to ensure that they are appropriately prioritized

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• Minimum 10-15 years’ experience in major projects
• Relevant degree or equivalent in Safety and Environmental fields of study
• Proven project management, execution, and leadership skills
• Proven experience developing and implementing systems successfully
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively influence others to action
• High degree of personal integrity, including the ability to work on confidential matters.
• Proven experience consulting and troubleshooting to allow development of sound resolution of issues
• Working knowledge of MHSA.
• Further training or exposure in international standards such as ISO 14000, ISO 9000 & OHSAS18000 is highly advantageous
