My client has an operating opencast mine in West Africa. They are currently seeking an experienced expatriate Mine Planner to join their team onsite.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Weekly; monthly; quarterly mine production schedules and <12 month forecasts
  • To provide modifications to pit and dump designs as and when required.
  • Design of waste dumps, stockpiles, haul roads, drainage and temporal pit designs.
  • To produce weekly; monthly and longer term reconciliations for mining operations.
  • Assist in the Management of mining contractors, safety improvement, quality assurance, the environment, budgets and site continuous improvement projects.
  • Provide a link between the Technical Services Department and Mining Contractors and between the, Geology Section and Processing Department.
  • Prepare monthly plans and forecasts in line with the plan and budget.
  • Prepare blast blocks in conjunction with Geologists and Drill and Blast Foreman whilst liaising with Explosive Contractor to nominate drilling patterns and blast initiation methods.
  • Manage production data and reporting, including monthly reports.
  • Incorporate inputs from various sections (geology and survey) into the weekly and monthly mining plans.
  • Ensure that the excavation achieves the design specifications
  • Take part in Succession Planning by training and mentoring of Graduate Engineers to ensure progressive development of local employees
  • Deputize for the Technical Services Superintendent as required.

 
Requirements:

  • Mine Engineering Degree from a recognized Tertiary Institution
  • Computer skills in Mine Engineering and Planning Software, such as, Surpac/Deswick and MineSched
  • Experience as an expatriate in Africa
  • Fluent verbal and Written English
  • MS Office
  • Sound knowledge in both design and scheduling software is essential
  • Exposure to multi-national, ethnic and cultural environments
  • At least  5 years’ experience in large scale open pit mining operations
  • At least 3 years’ experience in large scale open pit mine planning
  • Experience in Iron Ore mining essential
  • Knowledge of GIS systems is beneficial

 
Contractual information:

  • 2 year Contract
  • Market Related Salary / USD salary
  • Start date: January 2017
  • Fly in fly out roster (6weeks on / 3weeks off)
