The Tasiast mine is an open-pit operation in northwestern Mauritania located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored. The mine is proceeding with an expansion that is expected to increase production and lower operating costs.  

Job Description

The E&I Specialist will provide technical assistance and training to a staff of industrial electrical and instrumentation technicians, as well as process operations and process control personnel at the Tasiast Mine Site, in Mauritania, Africa. This role will provide technical support to the Electrical & Instrumentation team. To follow established policies, practices and procedures when completing work assignments. To provide in the field technical assistance, training and SOP development and verification to the E&I team.

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the E&I Superintendent, provide technical expertise to the E&I craftsmen in the field

• Responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of all activities related to process plant Electrical systems
• Answers queries and handles requests related to Electrical/instrumentation which includes problem solving and judgment
• Complies with established methodologies and quality standards related to Electrical & Instrumentation while at the same time recommending new or alternate approaches
• Prepares reports and completes documentation related to Electrical & Instrumentation
• Assists with special projects related to Electrical & Instrumentation
• Maximizes equipment utilization and minimizes downtime
• Monitors, analyzes, and implements changes to ensure maintenance is preventative, predictive, and proactive
• Monitors and reports on the achievement of targets and revises strategies as needed
• Mentor or train less experienced employees on operating standards, procedures and methods
• Provides training to junior craftsmen as needed
• Prepares communication materials, manuals and other written materials related to Electrical & Instrumentation
• Ensure knowledge transfer and training to the national workforce
• Support a nationalization plan that includes the ultimate nationalization of this role
• Support a goal based competency system in a structured and formalized progression program for National employees

Education and Experience

• Accredited trade certification in both Electrical and Instrumentation
• Must be able to communicate effectively, including the ability to document according to engineering best practices
• Familiarity Wonderware, Unity Pro, Modicon PLC’s, AB PLC’s and ABB control systems including GMD technology
• Experience with HV,MV and LV systems in an industrial setting
• Familiar with most known industrial automation communication protocol (Modbus, EithernetIP, Canopen), in addition to standard TCP/IP network skills
• Familiar with engineering drawing software (autocad or solidworks), is an added value
• 5 - 8 years of related work experience
• Experience with commissioning an Ore Processing Plant
• Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions required
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Ability to work with others in a team environment


• General knowledge of Ore Processing and the integration of , and maintenance functions
• Good working knowledge and skills with a PC utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs
• Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines in a commissioning atmosphere

• French language is an asset
