The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross operations and projects worldwide. Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT and Investor Relations.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Reporting administratively to the VP, Mineral Resources & Brownfield Exploration (i.e. for geology) and functionally to the CTO (i.e. on leading technical evaluations). The reporting line to the CTO will be re-assessed at 6 and 12 months, with the potential to change the reporting line to one of the VPs in the CTO’s organization structure.
  2. Provide technical leadership in the Company’s evaluations of potential targets for acquisition:
  • Strong knowledge of geology and mineral resource estimation
  • Knowledge/familiarity with key aspects of:
    • both underground and open pit mine planning
    • metallurgy and processing
  • Understanding of economic modelling and valuation
  1. Lead a multidisciplinary technical team of 2-4 people in completing numerous technical evaluations, sometimes under tight time constraints.
  2. Establish and recommend high-level development strategies that may include mining methodology and equipment selection, development of processing strategies, design and implementation of metallurgical testing programs, and development of technical programs in the area of hydrology and geotechnical engineering.
  3. Provide input and recommendations on decisions around whether to make investments/acquisitions/divestitures, and with a view on potential value.

Education and Experience

  1. Minimum of Bachelor’s degree level education, preferably in Geology. Post-graduate education is strongly preferred.
  2. At least 15 years of experience in a mining context (exploration, resource estimation, mine planning, etc), with minimum eight years field experience spent at either operating or exploration sites.
  3. Formal technical / professional registration in appropriate area of expertise.
  4. Significant experience with precious metals (notably gold) geological characterization and mineral resource estimation.
  5. Ability and willingness to travel to remote locations, with up to 50% of time spent away from the home office.
  6. Strong leadership and team-working skills, with a demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally.
  7. Previous leadership experience within the mining industry.
  8. Well-developed technical report writing and presentation skills and very strong communications skills.
  9. Team player with a strong inclination towards developing co-operative solutions.
  10. Ability to perform financial analysis in a mining environment.
  11. Ability to quickly identify key technical and business issues.
  12. Must be self-directed.
