Provide professional-level analysis and support, including program evaluation, metrics, survey participation and review of rate renewals.  Analyze benefit trends, prepare management reports and develop reconciliation tools.  Compile and analyze data for benefits compliance requirements.
  • Manage large volumes of data to analyze plan performance, support compliance reporting and prepare ad hoc reports for management
  • Analyze reports from vendors and other sources to identify issues/trends and make recommendations for improvement
  • Develop analysis tools to support benefit reconciliations and review
  • Obtain information/data to measure and report appropriate metrics
  • Analyze annual pricing for self-insured plans and maintain rate book
  • Review and analyze rate renewals on fully-insured plans
  • Prepare budget projections for all benefit plans (excluding pension)
  • Provide data for regulatory filings, non-discrimination testing and other department needs
  • Review and report on the value and effectiveness of benefit programs
  • Participate in benefit surveys and stay current with benefit trends and legislative and regulatory issues
  • Obtain market data and benchmarks
  • Manage processes of application, data collection, data integration, cost reconciliation and data submission for the Medicare Retiree Drug Subsidy and other similar subsidies; and perform calculation and data analysis to ensure the accuracy of these submissions
  • Provide assistance to the Manager in the completion of various projects as assigned
  • Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or closely related discipline and five (5) years of increasingly responsible Benefits or HR Analytics experience; OR
  • High School diploma or GED and nine (9) years of increasingly responsible Benefits or HR Analytics experience
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage large quantities of data
  • Skill in effective communication, both written and verbal
  • Strong Excel skills; proficiency in using Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to deliver high-quality, accurate work with ability to focus on data, details and analysis
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects at one time
  • Demonstrated flexibility, initiative, a strong team player orientation
  • Ability to think and act independently



  • Master's degree in Business or Human Resources-related discipline
  • Experience in mining, natural resources or similar industry
  • Experience with 401(k) plan administration and management
  • Management experience
  • Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation


  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Position is in a busy, non-smoking office located in Phoenix, AZ
  • Location requires mobility in an office environment; each floor is accessible by an elevator and internal staircase
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
