Business Development Manager - Africa

Job Description:  

CA Mining have been retained to source a suitably qualified candidate to manage the Africa division for Business Development. The sole purpose of this role is to drive growth of their African business through grass-roots business development. The role is an essential contributor to the development and of the groups African Growth Strategy. The role also supports Geoscience & Discovery and M&A projects and transactions, as required. This person will cover the full spectrum of BD activities including relationship building, network development, data gathering, leading to opportunity identification and evaluation through to the approval and implementation of incremental growth transactions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the identification, development and evaluation of organic and incremental inorganic growth opportunities in Africa
  • Contribute to the development of the African strategic plan in relation to growth
  • Develop a deep and trusted network within the miners, traders, owners and financial players active in the Sub Saharan mining market
  • Track strategy implementation progress and identify contingency plans, as needed, for achieving African strategic goals
  • Follow and critically analyse African mining industry developments
  • Follow and assess African infrastructure developments relevant to our clients current and future activities
  • Support project teams focused on Geoscience & Discovery and M&A activities
  • Support development work as necessary in relation to the African operating sites
  • Ensure that our business development activities are conducted in a manner which maintains or enhances our clients reputation with all stakeholders
  • Strengthen employee engagement, discretionary effort and team work in the Business Development area

Requirements / Qualifications:

  •  Relevant technical and project management skills
  • Strategic planning and economic evaluation, with working knowledge of legal agreements
  • Demonstrated business acumen and the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the business, including with remote stakeholders
  • Ability to set priorities and effectively plan
  • Strong ability to monitor and evaluate
  • Effective communicator at all levels of the business
  • Ability to support and ultimately lead high performing teams
  • Build and maintain a wide network of external business contacts
  • Strong emotional intelligence and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong commercial acumen with proven ability to negotiate effectively and ethically
  • Ability to be a team player and collaborate effectively
  • French language skills
  • Strong networks in African Copperbelt mining industry, government, mining actors & regulatory authorities
  • Business finance and funding including corporate finance practices
  • Background in mining preferred – Geology, Mining Engineering or Metallurgy - with exposure to all mining operational disciplines and exposure to exploration activities (cooperation with exploration teams).
  • Geology or Mining Engineer qualification, or Processing Engineer with substantial exposure to the other mining related disciplines
  • Secondary financial qualification or similar through proven financial analysis expertise will be highly regarded 

Contractual Information:

Residentially based position ideally in South Africa. DRC or Zambia also a possibility
