Nature or Purpose of Contact:

Internal

Maintenance planning (daily)

To provide input as requested into the development of and sign off for weekly maintenance plans for the LV workshop section.

Superintendent (daily as required)

Regular updates, weekly meetings

Direct Reports(Daily)

To Performance manage, mentor, coach and support

External

Planning and Reliability Superintendent (weekly as necessary)

Involvement in RCA investigations and implementation of RCA findings if required

Electrical Service Superintendent (as necessary)

Assist as required with mechanical needs

Human Resources (weekly)

To assist with staff interviews, and with on boarding new staff etc.

Suppliers (weekly as necessary)

To discuss component needs or get technical advice on new products.

Consultants (monthly, as required)

To advise if specialist may be required.

Contractors (as required)

To supervise or work with contract supervision of all external labor in your area and to conduct regular safety inspections.

Position Holder's Requirements:

Knowledge, Training & Experience Required:

* A minimum of an appropriate Trade certification and experience with Light & Medium vehicles as well as Auxiliary & Lifting Equipment repairs.
* Minimum of 8-10 years' experience in a maintenance role.
* At least 5 years in a senior supervisory role.
* Experience in high output workshops with high mechanical, auto electrical, electronic fault finding and hydraulic aptitude.

Practical/Specialist Skills:

* Knowledge of MS Office and Pronto or other enterprise systems.
* Hands on mechanical trade skills and experience with electronic diagnostic along with heavy vehicle and lifting equipment exposure would be an advantage.
* Previous experience with a large light and medium fleet operation would be well regarded.
* Previous exposure to crane & lifting equipment repairs would be a distinct advantage.
* Demonstrable experience with maintenance management systems will be an advantage.

Other Skills or Competencies:

* The ability and drive to manage a maintenance work group in a technically challenging and geographically remote maintenance environment.
* Sound planning, analytical, and problem solving skills.
* Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in English.
* Knowledge and understanding of diverse third world cultures and customs an advantage.

Health, Safety & Environment:

Contribute to the management of the health and safety risks related to all aspects of mining & plant to LV & MV equipment maintenance by;

* Assisting in the implementing the safety systems and procedures required by the Zambian mines regulations.
* Contributing to the identification of the significant Health and safety risks and impacts related to heavy maintenance workshops including those related to identify applicable legislation.
* Development and implementation of plans/controls to mitigate significant health and safety risks in your Section.
* Ensuring that the LV Workshop personnel have the necessary competencies, awareness and training to effectively manage the health and safety risks in their areas.
* Ensuring that incidents related to health, safety or the environment are reported and assist in investigations to identify any additional controls required.

Safety Performance:

* Ensure that the continuous improvement principles are applied to the health and safety programs in your section.
* Perform daily prestart meetings.
* Attend and/or conduct regular monthly safety meetings.
* Ensure the Section builds and uses SOP's relevant to their work.
* Actively promote continuous improvement in safety performance throughout the workforce.
* Conduct informal safety audits to tasks being undertake in your area on a regular basis.
