This position is located at the Henderson Mill site off of CO-9 between Kremmling, CO and Silverthorne,CO. This is a rural, alpine area approximately 2 hours from the Denver metropolitan area. The mill is at an altitude of approximately 10,000 feet. In the winter the average high temperature is 28 degrees and the average low is 0 degrees. In the summer the average high temperature is 75 degrees and the average low is 40 degrees. The average snowfall in Summit/Grand counties is in excess of 250 inches per year.
Performs professional level duties related to Human Resources (HR), including but not limited to, responsibilities in the following areas: employee relations, training, employment, compliance and recognition.  Assists the HR Manager to ensure operational effectiveness and exceptional customer service to the leadership and employment population.
  • Implement the organization’s HR processes, practices and systems to build organizational and people capability (e.g. staffing, performance management, training & development, employee relations)
  • Implement workforce planning and forecasting initiatives in alignment with site HR goals and deliver accordingly
  • Provide advice on HR, labor regulatory issues and assist with employment and compliance based investigations; providing coaching to leaders to support effective relationships with their employees
  • Implement cost effective and practical HR solutions while ensuring the ability to attract and retain required skills
  • Implement projects as directed by site HR leadership, facilitate change management, engagement, coaching and advising of stakeholders
  • Utilize corporate support resources to deliver tactical and operational support and ensure effective delivery
  • Implement HR improvements as directed in order to improve operational effectiveness and efficiency in the site
  • Perform other duties as requested

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of professional Human Resources experience, with a minimum of two (2) years of Generalist experience, OR
  • Master’s degree and three (3) years of professional Human Resources experience, with a minimum of two (2) years of Generalist experience


  • Degree in Human Resources Management, Business or related discipline
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM – CP, SHRM - SCP Certification(s)
  • Experience working in employee relations in an industrial setting, preferably mining, construction or heavy manufacturing
  • Ability to conduct investigations, yielding appropriated documentation, investigation summation and legal defensibility
  • Manage employee relations, while educating, coaching and influencing management
  • Experience with Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process including Arbitrations
  • Ability to effectively manage and direct work of others
  • Demonstrated development and leading of direct reports/ junior staff members
  • Strong interpersonal and influential skills that facilitate collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders and all levels of management
  • Self-directed, motivated, ability to prioritize tasks and work well under time constraints to accomplish business objectives
  • Competent in developing projects and executing them
  • Experience working with corporate policies and HR Shared Services
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint
  • Experience working with SAP
  • Experience working with Taleo
  • Experience working with SuccessFactors
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work is mostly performed in an office setting
  • Occasionally work will be performed in a mine, outdoor or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds during the course of the workday
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and other protective equipment as required
  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per applicable State Laws
