Database and GIS Specialist

Avesoro Resources are seeking a Database and GIS professional to work at our New Liberty Gold Mine in Liberia (West Africa). 6 weeks on 2 weeks off Roster Expat position.

Reporting to Technical Services Manager the Database and GIS Specialist will have responsibility and accountability for developing and maintaining a comprehensive database, leading the GIS and data display work and facilitating the planning and reporting functions on the mine.
The position will work with the senior management, mining and geology professionals and oversee a small team on an operating gold mine.

Responsibilities will include:

Data Storage:

- Managing Data Storage in the Maxwell Data Storage schema containing the two main branches of data handling, Geology and Mining, ensuring data validation on entry.
- Creating and Updating tables in MS SQL to fit with the bespoke requirements of each department.
- Improve on established QAQC procedures reporting and sense-check figures to ensure that outliers are spotted prior to data storage and problems with data collection or analysis are acted upon appropriately.

GIS and Data displays

- Convert data into visual displays of information according to the requirements, produce accurate terrain and surface models and monitor and produce 3D imagery of stockpiles for external audit and internal checks.
- Produce .dxf, .shp .dat file outputs as necessary for export.
- Generate graphs and charts relating to any data or correlations of data to display trends over time and create presentations suitable for management.

Planning and Reporting:

- Manage the preparation and implementation of data recording and reporting.
- Collate and produce reports on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
- Ensure forward planning is undertaken so that any additional burden of data collection or reporting is foreseen and appropriate measures are taken in good time.

Experience, skills, knowledge and qualifications:

Experience:
- Must be fully proficient in MS software and have 2 - 5 years’ experience developing databases with set ups using MS Access, SQL or similar.
- Have experience in geology and/or mining for a period of at least 2 years.
- Have 2 – 5 years in GIS software and open source datasets.
- Be familiar and have experience on drill planning, mining and production data storage.
- Should be eligible to obtain relevant statutory qualifications and have the attributes to be able function independently as the only Database Administrator on site.
- Have previous experience with drone operations and camera requirements advantageous.

Skills:
- Be proficient in MS SQL or use of SQL through another program and in a range of GIS software and data storage procedures.
- Have an ability to use Microsoft Office to a high level.
- Have excellent English written and oral communication skills.
- Be a performance orientated, collaborative and team player able to react pro-actively to any deviations from planned activities. Have a high level of organisation skill.
- Be persistent with data problems and able to find best solutions.

Qualifications and Knowledge:

- Have a Computer Science, Geology, Engineering or Geospatial degree from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Have knowledge of Standard Query Language for data programming and a strong understanding of GIS software and ability to pick up on site package quickly (Micromine).
- Be experienced with drone flight, survey tools and Pix4D software.
