Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in Nevada. It is the newest mine in Kinross’ portfolio and was acquired in January 2016.

Job Description

This position assists the Safety Department with coordination of activities involving all aspects of employees’ health and safety.  The position assists with the design, implementation, and monitoring of the safety and ERT programs at Bald Mountain.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Escort Regulators from all levels in the field along with effective documentation and follow up from said inspections. 
  2. Provide regular field inspections to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations and provide information to reduce costs.
  3. Provide ERT support, including training and program management. 
  4. Provide safety support for all levels of employees.
  5. To provide the Manager of Safety with reports and information.
  6. Coordinate and provide leadership to all Emergency Response Teams.
  7. To coordinate activities as directed in advanced training exercises and routine training.
  8. Stay current with safety issues, make decisions, and implement programs to accomplish objectives as directed by the Health & Safety Manager.

Education and Experience

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  1. Must be skilled in the field of mine safety and ERT. 
  2. Must be familiar with all aspects of the operation and have a substantial knowledge of MSHA regulations and industrial hygiene protocols. 
  3. Must be familiar with and skilled in the use of health regulations and testing techniques and equipment.
  4. Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  5. Ability to self-motivate.
  6. Trained to respond effectively to emergency situations.
  7. College Degree in related science or safety discipline desirable.
  8. A minimum of six years’ experience at a mine is preferred, with relevant experience in safety.  Experience in safety related field is desirable, with background in training in incident investigation.
  9. 2-3 years of safety experience is required.
  10. 3 years of advanced experience in ERT preferred.
  11. MSHA Instructor certification preferred.
  12. EMS Trainer Certification required.
  13. EMS Intermediate Certification required.
