Under limited supervision, provide water management engineering support and project management related to design, construction, and operation of tailings facilities, process water circuits, storm water ponds, and serve as company resource for water management information and analysis.
  • Supervise, drive, and enhance the FCX Corporate Water Management Program activities
  • Perform critical review of water management and water balance reports, analyses, and design plans and provide appropriate recommendations to address findings
  • Stay abreast of the state of the practice in the water resources engineering field to fulfill this role
  • Supervise and provide scoping assistance for analysis/modeling/engineering projects related to routine water management practices and special investigative projects
  • Provide leadership and technical support to site water teams on related activities and projects at mine sites
  • May serve as Project Manager or technical expert on related projects.
  • Supervises other engineers and contractors for water management modeling, data analysis, and project delivery
  • Provide focused site-specific support on special projects as-needed
  • Develop, maintain, and implement strategic plans to enhance mining operations’ water management activities
  • Contribute to strategic budgeting efforts for designated engineering areas
  • Communicate accurate, timely and relevant water management information to operational management team and staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (water resources or environmental emphasis) or related engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum, with courses in hydrology, environmental engineering, and numerical modeling and seven (7) years of experience in applicable field of expertise, including lead or supervisory experience, OR
  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (water resources or environmental emphasis) or related engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum, with courses in hydrology, environmental engineering, and numerical modeling and five (5) years of experience in applicable field of expertise, including lead or supervisory experience
  • Knowledge in the principles and practices of civil, environmental, geotechnical, or hydrologic engineering or a related field of science or engineering
  • Knowledge of appropriate software (e.g., MS Office, GoldSim) and data analysis
  • Fluency in English
  • Registered Professional Engineer (or equivalent)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to a diversely educated audience
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety of yourself and others
  • Present a positive, professional image
  • Self-motivated, energetic, able to execute, and client-service oriented
  • Be able to prioritize tasks and work well under pressure
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

Qualifications

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in water resources engineering, including hydrology, hydrogeology, hydraulics, water treatment plant design, and water quality
  • At least seven (7) years of work experience
  • Experience with metal mining operations, especially with tailings storage facility (dam), water dams and/or crushed leach stockpile design and operations
  • Experience managing large field investigations and/or engineering/construction projects
  • Able to research and analyze information of relatively small scope and minimal difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Able to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques in design projects and operational support
  • Superior interpersonal as well as written and oral communication skills with diverse teams of technical and non-technical staff
  • Proficient in using hydrology and hydraulics software as well as related engineering software (AutoCAD/Civil 3D, ArcGIS, GoldSim) and programming languages
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally
  • Ability and willingness to travel at least 5 weeks for every quarter

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see
  • Position will require travel throughout USA and internationally
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
