Based in Mauritania, Kinross Tasiast is set to become one of the great gold finds of our generation. It is the first mine in a highly prospective greenstone belt, located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored.

Job Description

To mentor Drill and Blast activities in the field applications with a primary focus on quality control and developing a best practice culture.  Provides work direction to employees, and monitors day-to-day operations of all Drilling and Blasting activities.  Review established policies, practices and procedures with the view to identify opportunities for improvement, and gaps.  Focused on transferring knowledge for the development of the national workforce.

Job Responsibilities

• A safetyleader

• Monitors and advises national employees on the execution of department field activities to enhance current practices and performance

• Assists and mentors national employees on complex queries and handles requests related to the department function, requiring problem solving and judgment

• Complies with established methodologies and quality standards related to the function, while at the same time recommending new or alternate approaches

• Provide performance assessments and development requirements on national employees to HOD

• Mentor or train less experienced national employees on operating standards, procedures and methods

• Ensures department systems are up-to-date and provides feedback to management on areas of improvement in order to comply with company goals

• Develops and revises policies and procedures

• Ensures productions targets are met with the highest level of safety compliance

• Ensure all activities at the mine sites are conducted in a safe manner and any safety issues are remedied and/or promptly reported

• Daily inspection of mining areas for unsafe structures, equipment and working conditions.

• Ensure drill and blasting procedures are being followed and adhered to at all times

• Participates and provides assistance with incident investigations

• Attends all meetings as requested, including Pre Start Meetings, Production and Planning Meetings,

• Interact effectively with all mining associated departments

Education and Experience

• Shotfirers Ticket preferred, or equivalent experience
• Supervisor Training
• Drill Operation

• Minimum of 10 years of related work experience or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role
• Previous experience in mining is essential


 • Ability to work within a diverse cultural group

• Strong leadership qualities and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management

• Excellent documentation and organizational skills

• Knowledge of DTH Drilling techniques, and consumable management

• Knowledge of explosives manufacturing and delivery techniques
