Teranga Gold is a multi-jurisdictional West African gold company focused on production and development as well as the exploration of more than 5,000km2 of land located on prospective gold belts. Teranga operates the only gold mine and mill in Senegal, West Africa. Gold production is expected to average about 200,000 ounces annually at all-in sustaining costs in the lowest (best) quartile of industry costs allowing the Company to generate strong free cash flows. Beyond the Company’s mine plan are significant opportunities for organic growth through further exploration in Senegal and Burkina Faso in West Africa. 


Summary of Role

This is an expat FIFO role: 8 weeks on / 4 weeks off roster with travel in company time or 6/3 roster with travel on employee’s time.

As the Commercial Manager reporting to the Site Operations Manager, you will be responsible for leading and providing oversight to the Finance, Administration, IT, Supply Chain and Camp teams on site in Senegal.  As a member of the senior management team, you will be responsible for developing Finance & Supply Chain systems to optimize productivity and efficiency.  A key focus of the role will be leading the contract management process, participate in and coordinate contract negotiations and renewals.

Key Responsibilities:

 

·            Lead and provide oversight of the administrative functions, Finance, Supply Chain and IT Departments

·            Oversee all vendor contracts including sourcing, negotiation and ensuring appropriate agreements, execution and service levels are met

·            Ensure that all activities are done according to budget and forecasts

·            Provide a systematic approach in meeting all targets through sound KPI’s for each group

·            Lead all people related activities always behaving in a manner consistent with company values and expected behaviors

·            Develop and maintain progression and succession plans for departmental staff as per company and HR guidelines; this includes the development, implementation and maintenance of a department skills matrix among other requirements

·            Support and/or lead business process improvements with a view to increasing efficiency and effectiveness and achieving operational excellence

·            Keep necessary records of all aspects related to the department and contractual activities

 

Qualifications

 

·       University degree in Finance and Accounting

·       Minimum of 15 years’ relevant experience with at least 5 years in the mining industry

·       Demonstrated negotiating and contract management skills

·        Experience working in Africa or a developing country is required

·      Demonstrated people management experience including ability to coach and mentor team members of        diverse backgrounds

·        Strong communication, planning and execution skills

·        Advanced level of computer literacy in particular MS Office suite & ERP systems (ie Pronto, SAP)

·        Excellent leadership and management skills with proven ability to motivate and empower team

·        Must possess strong cultural sensitivity and be able to execute work successfully in a different culture

·      Strong communication skills in English, (French is an asset) to effectively interact with employees and government officials
