Location: Round Mountain, Nevada, USA

Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach.

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Metallurgy Manager, the incumbent undertakes assorted fundamental research and development projects with an end objective of improvement of plant operating and maintenance efficiency. The incumbent will introduce sound metallurgical practice to all process changes and recovery improvements while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform plant sampling surveys.  Analyze samples as required by the particular attributes of the unit operation being studied.  Process the data extracted and make recommendations for change based on interpretation of the results using sound engineering principles.
  • Perform laboratory process simulation using bench-scale grinding, flotation, leaching, and other related processes.  Scale-up from bench-scale results.  Design plant tests and organize and run these plant tests.  Report on results of same using procedures described above.
  • Metallurgical accounting and control of mill reagent inventories.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry practice and innovation and technological change.
  • Will write up procedures and SOP’s for routine sampling and testing conducted in the process.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  • Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
  • Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • Accuracy and precise work is required.
  • Ensure that sound engineering practice and principles are used.
  • Good computer skills are required.
  • Requires an understanding of computer modeling.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in chemical or metallurgical engineering is preferred.
  • 5 years mill operations experience would be an asset.
  • Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good understanding of mill and crusher operations, mill maintenance and mining operations.
  • Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  • Requires valid driver’s license.
