The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross operations and projects worldwide. Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT and Investor Relations.

Job Description

To manage and provide leadership in finance and accounting matters while coaching and developing talent. Ensures continuous improvement in areas ranging from accounting policy, corporate governance, compliance activities and financial reporting. Supports the execution of Kinross’ finance strategy, standards and initiatives and act as a liaison between Corporate and the US operating and non-operating entities.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Preparing monthly analysis and reporting on general and administrative expenditures as compared to budgets.
  • Acting as lead contributor in the quarterly forecasting process for the Toronto office general and administrative departments, coordinating information requests and compiling and analyzing results.
  • Acting as lead contributor in the annual budgeting process for the Toronto and Denver office general and administrative, technical and exploration departments
  • Liaising with department leaders to understand and analyze general and administrative expenses and provide information to meet their reporting requests, approximately 10 department owners in the US and 30 in Canada.
  • Stock-based compensation and other corporate accounting analysis
  • Preparation and review of account reconciliations
  • Administers accurate, complete and timely financial reporting in accordance with Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Kinross accounting policies and procedures
  • Design and administer Corporate SOX procedures.
  • Facilitate relationship with external auditors, including preparing pension statements for the Canadian and US 401K plans.
  • Identifies strategies and key performance goals and act as an advisor to direct reports; works to overcome challenges and barriers
    • Manage a team of 5 direct reports of various experience levels
    • All direct reports are designated professional accountants
  • Manage the accounting and finance function for approx. 50 active and holding companies registered in Canada, the US, Europe and various other countries.
  • Reviews and analyzes budgets and monthly variances, prepares the consolidated overhead analysis and makes presentations to VP level in finance and SLT in attendance at operations meetings.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance and advice to corporate finance and site staff, particularly those in the US.
  • Developed and manages the intercompany and external gold sales transactions through KGC and the 6 related operated mines.

Education and Experience

Education

  • University degree in Finance -
  • Current accounting designation  CA, CPA


Experience

  • 10 years of post qualification experience, 6 years as a Manager 
  • Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred

Skills

• Good knowledge of International financial reporting standards (IFRS)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
