We are currently searching for Medium Term Mine Planners with extensive Open Pit planning experience.

Main responsibilities

1. Responsible for final, interim and staged designs from 10-yearly to monthly production, designs of waste dumps, ore pads, haul roads, drainage and dewatering schemes.
2. Assist the corporate engineers on the formation of the corporate long term and life of mine plans. Compile optimisation parameters, design criteria, cost data. Act as a QC on long term plans and ensure their compatibility with site mine planning.
3. Development of bench plans showing pit design, ramps, levels and faces; provision of overlays for ore distribution and blending, haulage, dewatering, electrification and so on.
4. Oversee the mine designs done by the mine design engineer either computerised or hand drawn designs.
5. Designs and plans must incorporate mining techniques and methodologies for large scale bulk mining for ultra class trucks (approx. 400 tonne) and electric rope shovels.
6. Integrity and quality of existing designs, plans and topographical data.
7. Bench plans showing the distribution or ore grade, waste, lithologies, metalliferous and recovery boundaries and any other input that can affect productivity and ore grade.
8. Produce detailed five year mining budgets on financials and physicals to meet deadlines, including the capital expenditure planning.
9. Scheduling of ore, waste, process feed, stockpiles, backfill and blending if required, up to a 5-year period.
10. Lead planning for mining, crusher feed, ore stockpiling and waste dumping using the mine planning scheduling and design tools.
11. Close liaison with corporate planning, production engineers, geologists and metallurgists to provide accurate designs, base plans, production schedules and mining costs.
12. Support annual reserve/resource estimation and reporting. This includes maintenance of relevant cost models.
13. Co-ordinate inputs from geology, processing, mining, business and management as required for budgets, re forecasts and strategic scenarios.
14. The primary requirement is an excellent knowledge of Surpac for mine planning.
15. Ensure compliance with all site procedures, policies and site environmental requirements to ensure work is conducted a safe manner so that there are zero lost time injuries.
16. Provide day to day supervision, acting as a technical reference point and mentor for staff to ensure work outputs are in line with daily and weekly business plans.
17. Training and mentoring of Panamanian staff and people on the international graduate program.

Qualifications and technical competencies

1. A minimum of 5 years as a mining engineer working at a specialist level in a metalliferous open-pit.
2. Excellent knowledge of open-pit mine planning, preferably with large scale ultra equipment. The job would suit coal, iron ore and metalliferous as well as other planners with ultra experience.
3. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
4. Excellent knowledge of the Surpac mine software package. We have little capacity or time to train people who know other packages.
5. Good verbal and written skills to facilitate information transfer both upwards and downwards in direction.
6. Knowledge of MS Office especially Word and Excel.
7. Some knowledge of Spanish will be advantageous.
