Based in Mauritania, Kinross Tasiast is set to become one of the great gold finds of our generation. It is the first mine in a highly prospective greenstone belt, located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement work procedures, Job Safety Analyses (JSA’s), systems and standards that will comply with occupational health and workplace safety standards to meet Company and national guidelines, policies and legislation
  • Actively promote the recognition in subordinate staff that the health and safety of their personnel is of the highest priority and cannot be compromised.
  • Assist the technical training department in the development of a training matrix for all maintenance personnel and includes a methodology of assessment for each position.
  • Assist in preparation of a skill-based pay program for all mechanical maintenance personnel (if applicable with Company requirements).
  • Actively promote, coach, and mentor the national staff to develop to the minimum standards of the TMLSA Mauritinazation program.
  • Undertake evaluations of welders to ensure that contract welders meet required Tasiast welding  standard (API 1104)
  • Actively promote, coach, and mentor the maintenance team in the business processes outlined in JDE, and Kinross Way for Maintenance.
  • Promote effective working relationships with all interdependent departments to enhance the performance of the core business.
  • Determine spare parts stock levels for all mobile equipment in the mine operations that pertain to welding and Light Vehicle and Medium Vehicle shops.
  • Determine all other consumable stock levels such as welding supplies, gases, fasteners, etc., with logistics personnel.
  • Coordinate with logistics personnel an evaluation of potential consignment stock with suppliers of mobile equipment, and consumables if required.
  • Work with the Mobile Maintenance Superintendent of contracts to oversee the welding shop contract
  • Manage the Light Vehicle and Medium Vehicle shops, machine shop, welding shop & fuel team.
  • Work with planning departments to develop and implement a rolling one year welding plan.
  • Organize with the Haul & Aux, Shovel & Drill Superintendent for work to be performed on equipment during PM’s and PCR.
  • Maintain an up to date bucket, stick & boom strategy.

Education and Experience


  • Visual welding inspector of a minimum level of 3.0
  • Additional specialized education of up to 4 years in relative field (Welding)


  • 8 - 12 years of related work experience in Welding
  • Knowledge and experience of engineering techniques as they apply to wear rates of machinery attachments
  • Knowledge and experience of mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions
  • Knowledge and experience of developing policies and procedures relating to safety, the environment, and individual and organizational development
  • Familiar with federal / industry and local health/ safety/ environmental regulations, as they relate to mining operations
  • Remote work experience at a camp job, West Africa experience preferred
