The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross operations and projects worldwide. Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT and Investor Relations.

Job Description

  • To oversee activities related to a moderately complex accounting process and to ensure service and / or operating standards are met (internally and / or externally).
  • To contribute to the design and development of processes, practices, and methodologies in external reporting.
  • To prepare financial statements and other reports for external purposes.

Job Responsibilities

 

  1. To oversee activities related to a system, program, or process in consolidation accounting
  1. Independently prepares consolidated financial statements and analysis for external purposes
  2. Researches information and proposes new work approaches, methods and policies to optimize performance and to ensure adherence to industry regulations and organizational standards
  3. Using advanced professional knowledge, acts as an advisor to a variety of internal and / or external requests
  4. Contributes to the development of policies and practices in external reporting
  5. Prepares communication materials, manuals, and other written materials related to technical issues, programs, or systems
  6. Keeps on top of trends related to external reporting and incorporates this information into work assignments and approach
  7. Actively seeks mentorship and learning to improve product or technical knowledge and skill set
  8. Assists in the development of accounting policies and procedures
  9. Participates in the review of new accounting pronouncements, assesses the impact of such pronouncements on the company’s financial reporting and presents such findings to the Finance Department.
  10. Works with Kinross’ external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits by assisting with the preparation of financial working papers
  11. Assists in preparation of other corporate financial disclosures including MD&A, AIF’s and others
  12. Participates in task forces related to area of expertise
  13. Maintains all working papers of the financial statements and notes for each reporting period.
  14. Assists with maintaining timelines for the Finance Department in each reporting period.
  15. Assists process owners with documentation of controls and processes
  16. Assists with the documentation and assessment of initial controls over financial reporting
  17. Works with Manager, Financial Reporting and Director, Financial Reporting and Advisory to develop new processes and procedures where needed and correct key control deficiencies

 

  1. To analyze information and prepare technical documents to support decision making
  1. Investigates, researches and analyzes information and issues related to external financial reporting
  2. Assists with the preparation of technical reports and documentation to ensure compliance with industry and operational requirements

 

  1. To communicate information related to external reporting
  1. Assists with training and skill development on technical issues in external reporting
  2. Provides information on operating standards, compliance requirements and policies

Education and Experience

Education

  • University graduation or diploma
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA or international equivalent)

 

Experience

  • 3 – 5 years of related work experience or equivalent

Skills

  • An ideal candidate will have post-qualification experience in a corporate accounting environment, preferably with exposure to consolidation and financial reports
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment
  • Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job duties
  • In depth understanding of Kinross’ processes a definite asset
  • Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the corporation is essential
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job duties
  • Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments
  • Knowledge of IFRS
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
