Water Systems Management Superintendent

Location: Nouakchott, Inchiri region, Mauritania

Job Description

To provide complex overall technical support to the non-process operations and maintenance team. To follow established policies, practices and procedures when completing work assignments. To maximize operational efficiency, safety, and profitability to cultivate exceptional stakeholder and employee satisfaction. Contribute to maintaining budget, forecasts, and strategic plans for the energy management team function. To ensure the reporting of accurate cost and availability data of all Water Systems related components.

Job Responsibilities

 To administer a system, program, or process in non-process operations and maintenance

  • Responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of all activities related to Water Production, Water Treatment, and Distribution & Maintenance.
  • Responsible for the Operation & Control of the entire process or system of machines, often through the use of control panels, to transfer or treat water & waste water.
  • Answers queries and handles requests related to all Water System matters, as well as conservation which includes problem solving and judgment.
  • Complies with established methodologies and quality standards related to Water Systems while at the same time recommending new or alternate approaches.
  • Escalates issues requiring knowledge about the broader business impact of decisions.
  • Prepares reports and completes documentation related to Water System Maintenance and Management.
  • Assists with special projects related to Water Systems.
  • Monitors efficiency of all Water Systems.
  • Maximizes equipment utilization and minimizes downtime.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and implements changes to ensure maintenance of Water Systems is preventative, predictive, and proactive.
  • Monitors and reports on the achievement of targets and revises strategies as needed.
  • Actively manage and lead a multicultural team.
  • Mentor / train less experienced employees on operating standards, procedures and methods
  • Other duties as required.

To provide technical support and customer service related to Water Systems Management:

  • Addresses queries and resolves issues for internal customers while ensuring service standards are met
  • Ensures internal customers comply with company policy and procedures and regulations pertaining to Water Systems
  • Prepares communication materials, manuals and other written materials related to Water System Conservation
  • Works closely with all water users to ensure water management & conservation is recognized and is a part of their culture

To provide work direction to the Water Systems Management and Continuous Improvement Team:

  • Acts as a communication linchpin with the team and models the organization’s values
  • Contributes to the development and revision of policies and procedures for the Water Systems Team

Education and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification related to Water System Management required – inclusive but not limited to Water Treatment
  • Must have a clear understanding of the controlling operations of equipment and machines applicable to water & waste water treatment
  • Experience in Quality Control Analysis – Knowledge of controlling operations of equipment & systems
  • Must have successfully completed and possess Plumbing/Pipe Fitting Trade Certificate – inclusive of domestic & industrial pipe fitting
  • Must be fully capable of performing & advising on GRE Welding, Poly Welding & Fusion Welding
  • 10 years plus of related work experience specifically Industrial Pipe Fitting – all piping types are included in this criteria    
  • Driving license
  • Excellent English and French communication skills
  • Previous green and brown field installation experience
  • Complete understanding and experience of water management control systems in a mining environment
  • Experience with remote water abstraction activities which will have booster station operations included
  • Experience in industrial / mining safety culture
  • Knowledge of International Plumber & Pipe Fitters Code 
  • Ability to initiate preventative maintenance programs and compliance
  • Need to have knowledge of what specific routine maintenance is required and applicable to the different kinds of operating equipment within the water treatment network
  • Basic knowledge of chemistry – Chemical composition of substances and the processes and transformations they undergo
  • Biology – Knowledge of organisms and how they apply to the Treatment of water & Waste Water
  • Ability to create and read water drawings – both for installation, modification & maintenance purposes
  • Relevant computer literacy
