The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross operations and projects worldwide. Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT and Investor Relations.

Job Description

  • To act as a key advisor for accounting matters and a key contributor to non-routine projects and special initiatives in the Finance group.
  • This position reports to the Director, Financial Reporting & Advisory.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Using advanced professional knowledge, acts as an advisor to a variety of internal and/or external requests.
  2. Investigates, analyzes and researches accounting matters and prepares memorandums for review by management and external auditors.
  3. Provides accounting guidance and advice to Finance staff globally and to other departments, as necessary.
  4. Assists Finance staff globally in resolving local accounting issues, upon request.
  5. Acts as a key contributor for M&A activities, including due diligence, pro-forma preparation, integration and analysis of accounting and disclosure implications of transactions.
  6. Acts as a key contributor to analysis and recommendations on potential financings.
  7. Manages the maintenance and update of the Kinross Accounting Policy Manual.
  8. Assists in the development of accounting policies and procedures.
  9. Communicates and educates Kinross Finance staff (and other departments, as necessary) globally about accounting policies and procedures.
  10. Manages the analysis and implementation of new accounting pronouncements prior to adoption including leading the assessment of the impacts of new standards and managing the implementation of any required accounting and processing changes globally.
  11. Supports the Finance team in various activities during the quarterly and annual reporting processes as needed/appropriate including managing the impairment testing, drafting note disclosures, and reviewing financial statements and MD&A.
  12. Completes benchmarking of Kinross’ financial statements, MD&A, annual report and other public documents.
  13. Develops processes, practices and methodologies to support best practices for the finance department.
  14. Prepares communication materials, manuals, and other written materials related to technical issues, programs, or systems.
  15. Contributes to non-routine projects and special initiatives within the Finance group.
  16. Assists with the preparation of business cases and reports regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders.

Education and Experience

Education

  • University graduation or diploma
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA or international equivalent)

 

Experience

  • 5-8 years of related work experience or equivalent
  • Big 4 or mid-tier firm experience an asset

  • Transaction advisory experience an asset
  • Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
