Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in Nevada. It is the newest mine in Kinross’ portfolio and was acquired in January 2016.

Job Description

Under the general direction of the Chief Mine Engineer – The incumbent is responsible for the coordination and implementation of Long Term mine planning activities.  Provide Strategic Business Planning scenarios while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Job Responsibilities

  • Long-range mine planning: Co-ordinate work between Engineering & Geology departments to prepare geologic and mineable reserve estimates.  Design optimum mine phase plans and related schedules, and prepare dumping plans and schedules.
  • Use Deswik, Vulcan, Whittle and Xeras mine planning software to conduct long term planning
  • Computer system: Maintain the computer mine planning system and data integrity.
  • Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  • Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • Able to prioritize with limited planning resources and frequent deadlines. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, theories, and concepts of open pit mine planning including pit design, implementing geotechnical guidance and COG calculation.
  • Previous experience with Vulcan and Whittle is required.  Previous experience with Deswik is preferred.
  • Microsoft Office experience is required.
  • Mining Engineer Degree.
  • 4-7 years’ experience in mine engineering.
  • Experience should include 3-4 years working in open-pit mine planning.
  • Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of heap-leach and maintenance operations.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills
  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  • Requires valid driver’s license.
