Senior Metallurgist - Mineralogy and Geo-Metallurgy

Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist we are looking for a Senior Metallurgist with extensive technical experience in Mineralogy and Geo-Metallurgy.

About the processing plant:

* Crushing: Technologies in this area include 4 x in-pit 63'' Primary Gyratory Crushers, 4 x 2.5 MW Cone Secondary Cone Crushers and 4 x 1 MW Pebble Crushers.

* Milling: Technologies in this area include 3 x gearless 40' SAG mills operating in SABC mode with associated 26' Ball mills; installed milling power is 150MW.

* Gold: Technologies in this area include gravity concentrators, magnetic separators, shaking tables, calcination and smelting to produce gold - silver bullion.

* Concentrator (Copper & Molybdenum): Technologies is this area include large-scale conventional flotation plant (600m3 cells), column flotation (5m diameter), 3 x 5MW vertical stirred re-grinding mills, large conventional thickeners and pressure filters.

* Services: Technologies in this area include the Reagent Management area and multiple site services including the water balance.

Responsibilities:

* Manage the daily - monthly mineralogical functions, using Scanning Electron Microscopy as the primary analytical technique;
* Assist with the execution of recovery and quality improvement plans by working alongside the metallurgists and producing supportive mineralogical data to identify improvements and causes for process performance;
* Identify relationships between process plant KPI's and feed ore mineralogy;
* Contribute to ore body & stockpile classification based on mineralogical attributes and demonstrated correlations with process plant behaviour;
* Develop and maintain plant ore performance models based on mineralogical content;
* Conduct regular benchmarking mineralogical surveys of plant streams;
* Contribute to plant performance troubleshooting by providing insight on mineral composition, grain size distribution, liberation and association;
* Contribute to populating geological block model with relevant mineralogical attributes, and corresponding plant performance metrics;
* Champion regular ore feed planning meeting with mine planning and geology teams, with aim to provide process plant with a defined and consistent feed blend;
* Ensure continuous knowledge transfer between mine planning, grade control and plant metallurgical teams;
* Ensure the effective running of the daily to monthly mineralogy functions, which includes:
o Analysis of mounted blocks in a Scanning Electron Microscope;
o Ensure proper operation & maintenance of equipment;
o Establish optical functionality and gold mineralogy;
o Effective reporting/communication of mineralogical findings.

Requirements:

* A Bachelor's degree in chemical/Process/ Metallurgical Engineering or Geology with demonstrable expertise/advanced studies in Mineralogy;
* Advantageous to be proficient in the use of an Automated Scanning Electron Microscope (QEMSCAN, MINSCAN, MLA, Zeiss Mineralogic, etc.), optical microscope (reflected and transmitted light) as an analytical technique and any other relevant analytical techniques;
* Experienced in applying mineralogy concepts to processing of base metal deposits;
* Laboratory or operational experience of copper ore/base metal milling, flotation and general geology are advantageous.
