This is an 18-month contract, fly-in/ fly-out role: 8 weeks on / 4 weeks off roster with travel in company time or 6/3 roster with travel on employee's time.
Summary of Role
Under the supervision of the Regional Tax & Compliance Director, this role focuses on the management of the tax & compliance issues for Senegal with the help of external tax advisers. It will also involve active participation in the negotiations with the governmental authorities and backup of the Regional Tax & Compliance Director during R&R breaks (e.g. frequent interaction with Corporate and backfilling on Burkina Faso issues, secondary to the primary focus, which is Senegal). This role is be based out of our operations site in Sabodala, with occasional time in our Dakar office.
Key Responsibilities
· Coordinate and review tax and compliance tasks for Senegal
· Participate in negotiations with the Senegalese governmental authorities, including Tax and Customs authorities, and the Department of Mines & Geology
· Review tax clauses in all commercial agreements/service agreements
· Participate in tax assessments, tax exposure mitigation and tax planning
· Provide timely and accurate tax liability estimations and monthly & yearly tax returns submissions
· Liaise with external tax firms on various matters, including monthly VAT credit refund claims and permits renewals
· Ensure compliance with WAEMU foreign exchange regulations, such as cash repatriation and payment of foreign vendors
· Coordinate internal audit work and the Company’s compliance register update
· Supervise, coach and mentor tax & compliance and internal audit coordinators
· Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or related field, with a Tax and/or Accounting designation
· Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in accounting and/or taxation; non-consulting experience preferred
· Proficient communication skills in both French and English to effectively interact with employees and government officials
· Demonstrated self-starter, with an ability to manage people with a hands-on approach
· Excellent presentation skills and a high level of professionalism
· Detail-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to produce accurate work under pressure
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
