The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross operations and projects worldwide. Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT and Investor Relations.

Job Description

With the VP of Project Value Assurance, provide global vision for supply chain functional support to operations, projects and support teams across all Kinross sites. Establish Corporate Supply Chain standards, guidelines and best practices; and assist the regions and the sites in implementation.

Job Responsibilities

Set Supply Chain Strategy

With the VP of Project Value Assurance, provide global vision for supply chain functional support to operations, projects and support teams across all Kinross sites. Establish Corporate Supply Chain standards, guidelines and best practices; and assist the regions and the sites in implementation. 

Act as Talent Champion for Supply Chain globally

  • In close conjunction with Regional leadership, develop a high performing supply chain team to support best in class supply chain operations. This includes:
  • Develop close relationship with corporate and regional supply chain teams along the lines of the Kinross decentralized model.
  • Identify appropriate staffing levels and deployment models at Corporate to best support
  • strategy rollout.
  • Develop job descriptions to permit execution of regional and corporate supply chain objectives ensuring alignment with overall strategy.
  • Assist RVPs in evaluating regional and site teams, identifying gaps in skill sets and capabilities relative to requirements established in staffing model and strategy development phase.
  • Where requested by the RVPs, develop skills upgrade plan for team to close identified gaps through training, redeployment of resources and hiring programs. 

Maintain and Enhance the Kinross Way for Supply Chain

Develop the Kinross Way for Supply Chain operations reflecting best in class supply chain support. This includes:

  • Where needed, define supply chain processes and support requirements within the context of the supply chain strategy and end user support requirements.
  • Identify gaps in current processes versus internal requirements and best in class operations through the use of an operational lean review.
  • Where needed, design key metrics to monitor and manage performance levels across supply chain functions.
  • Develop control mechanisms for different supply chain functional areas to ensure adherence to policies and guidelines.
  • Develop and execute plan to close gaps and eliminate non‐value added steps.
  • Develop user training program for accessing supply chain support.   Execute training program across all sites and regions for supply chain staff and customer groups. 

Develop, Support and Enhance SCM Technology Tools

Support implementation of new technology to enable supply chain operations across all regions. This includes:

  • Co‐ordinate implementation of Business Process Optimization (BPO) for Supply Chain to support JD Edwards implementations across the company.
  • Introduce new technologies to support supply chain functional teams – online auctions, emarketplaces, supplier management portal, CAT Partstore and other OEM links, Barcoding and RFID etc.

Strategic Sourcing

Maintain and continue to develop Kinross’ strategic sourcing program to ensure supplier selection, qualification and negotiations processes align with best in class models to maximize benefit to Kinross. This includes:

  • Conduct an “ABC” style spend assessment identifying savings opportunities across regions.
  • Set and document guidelines for stratified sourcing activities.
  • Develop and tailor tools and guidelines to support sourcing activities at various levels.
  • Lead sourcing and negotiation for critical global categories.
  • Develop best cost solutions for Kinross based on negotiation and sourcing process.
  • Support regional sourcing programs.
  • Manage global supplier relationships:
    • Carefully manage supplier relationships, including the coordination of different internal and external stakeholders (e.g. technical experts, continuous improvement, maintenance, site management, etc.)
    • Track and manage progress of suppliers against contracted commitments and CI programs.
    • Support regional relationship programs.
  • Develop planning and forecasting standards (and specifications for minimum capabilities) within the supply chain function to permit better linkages between supply chain and operational planning teams. Duties include:
    • Develop methodology for gathering data from user groups and translating it to materials planning capabilities.
    • Support regional teams in implementing cross stakeholder planning. 

Major Capital Procurement

  • From time to time, assist major Capital Projects with capital procurement.  This includes but is not limited to the following:
  • Second or help hire personnel to an owner’s team to conduct or lead capital procurement for major capital projects.
  • Ensure Project teams are following Kinross policies and best practices. 
  • Regularly scan the market to identify opportunities for discounts, forward-buys, etc.

Transportation

Where and when required / requested, support regional teams in development and implementation of logistics management programs. This includes:

  • Optimize network design, carrier selection, mode analysis, LTL v. FTL considerations etc.
  • Evaluate / optimize carriers.
  • Establish options for core carrier programs for core lanes and regions. Develop data visibility to spend across inbound carriers ‐ vendor controlled as well as Kinross engaged activities.
  • Develop tracking capabilities for real time movement availability – RFID and GPS.
  • Evaluate backhaul capabilities in Russia and other sites. 

Warehouse and Inventory Management

Establish operating guidelines for warehouse infrastructure across Kinross. Duties include:

  • Where needed, develop warehouse management procedures and methodology across Kinross sites.
  • Where required and requested by the sites/regions,refine warehouse operations to reflect best in class business models.
  • Where required and requested by the sites/regions , optimize volumes held on site and across system at agreed to category service levels and risk parameters.
  • Develop real time visibility to holdings across system.
  • As part of the Kinross Way for Maintenance, support system wide critical item management methodology.
  • Introduce basic and best practices based programs such as Barcoding and RFID / GPS.
  • Work with suppliers to reduce working capital commitments through JIT, VMI etc.

Education and Experience

  • University graduate with specialized education of up to 4 years, preferably including master’s level or MBA
  • More than 10 years of Commercial experience with at least 3 years of experience at the Director level or managing a regional operation
  • Advanced written and spoken English
  • Successful experience developing and delivering supply chain strategy and operations preferably on a global scale
  • Excel and enjoy  developing close relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Able to develop close relationships between operations, corporate function and partners.
  • Experience in mining  / oil and gas desirable but not essential
  • Global experience highly desirable
  • Experience with ERP system deployment is desirable
  • Able to travel 20% - 35%
  • Additional languages are helpful (Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, etc)
