Job Description

The Human Resources Business Partner independently handles the people management agenda related to HR programs and processes for the employees within Kinross Gold Corporation in Canada, including but not limited to: employee relations, payroll, pension, benefit administration, performance management, compensation, onboarding, off-boarding, training and development, HRIS, recruitment, talent reviews, talent and succession planning, compliance, policy, procedures, immigration, and relocation. This role is responsible for ensuring HR service and operating standards are met both internally and externally by demonstrating professionalism and expertise in all actions. This role will also contribute to the design and development of processes, practices, and methodologies in Human Resources. The Human Resources Business Partner actively engages in and supports discussions by sharing best practices from different functions in the organization.

Job Responsibilities

  • Acts as an HR advisor and single point-of-contact for the employees and managers within the Corporate office
  • Builds and manages strong relationships with different functions across the organization, including their respective senior leaders
  • Proactively engages with the functions to interpret needs, determine requirements, identify, and support the delivery of solutions to various HR-related matters including but not limited to: policy changes, entitlement analyses, benefit reviews and improvements, talent management, exit interview analysis, compensation, employee development, and retention
  • Independently handles employee relations issues or enquiries relating to benefits, pension, share purchase plan, compensation, vacation, performance, recruitment, and systems
  • Advises on and conducts corrective action, performance improvement, and/or termination meetings with employees as needed
  • Acts as the performance improvement driver to provoke positive change in the people management of client functions
  • Researches information to support decision making and improve processes.
  • Stays current on best practices and trends related to Canadian HR and legislations, and incorporates this information into work assignments and/or to improve products or services provided
  • Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures for continual improvements in efficacy of department and services performed
  • Contributes to the development of human resource policies and practices in Canada
  • Contributes to the design, roll-out, and training of new programs, initiatives, and system-related processes
  • Works with the Global Talent Acquisition team to conduct HR interviews and debrief with the hiring manager as needed
  • Advises on the Canadian immigration and relocation processes to employees and/or managers, and works with the HR Generalist to facilitate the process as required
  • Initiates and facilitates the onboarding and orientation process for new employees and provide training as needed to ensure new employees are properly set up on payroll and benefits
  • Coordinates off-boarding process for terminated employees and conduct exit interviews
  • Works with the Total Rewards Manager/Partner to evaluate roles; analyze and create compensation recommendations for new employees, promotions, or salary adjustments; and on ad hoc requests as needed
  • Contributes to and supports the annual performance and compensation process including but not limited to: annual performance reviews, year-end compensation reviews, compensation planning and execution, system training, and talent management and succession management reviews
  • Prepares, analyzes and interprets information related to HR activities, ensuring accurate reports and analyses are completed and shared with functions and management as required
  • Represents the company through relations with third parties and/or vendors
  • Responsible for ensuring that workplace safety procedures are being followed and addressed
  • Actively seeks mentorship and learning to improve product or technical knowledge and skill set
  • May mentor or train less experienced team members and acts as a resource for colleagues in broader HR team
  • Manages complex and cross-functional HR projects
  • Manages or leads special HR-related projects as required

   

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications Education:

  • University degree or diploma in Business, Human Resources, or related discipline
  • Additional specialized education of up to 2 years
  • Professional in Human Resources (e.g., CHRL, CPHR, PHR, SPHR) certification preferred

Required Qualifications Experience:

  • 5 - 8 years of related work experience or equivalent. Previous experience working in an HR Generalist capacity in a global and/or public organization will be considered an asset
  • Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
