Senior Manager - Resource Geology

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross operations and projects worldwide. Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT and Investor Relations.

Job Description

To provide geological interpretation and resource estimation supporting the company’s operations, exploration and merger and acquisitions activities. The role spans the entire mining life cycle from discovery, exploration, development, construction, operations, closure and reclamation. Key areas of responsibility include: geology modelling (including orebody characterization), resource modelling, resource and reserve reporting, mine geology, regulatory compliance, support of brownfield exploration, management of consultants, and management of direct reports.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assists with the consolidation of the company’s resources and reserve estimates at the corporate level
  • Monitors regulatory compliance with respect to mineral resource and mineral reserve estimates
  • Provides geological and resource modelling support for operations and development projects
  • Participates in due diligence reviews and compilation of engineering studies
  • Identifies geological strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats impacting the economic viability of operations, development projects and studies
  • Assists in establishing processes related to geology and resource modelling
  • Ensures that Kinross best practices for geology and resource modelling are maintained 
  • Actively communicates information related to geology and resource modelling best practices and professional development
  • Promotes collaboration across functional teams and consider the business impact of decisions on diverse groups
  • Facilitates the exchange of geological technical information by developing open communication between corporate functions (KTS, Legal, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, HSE, etc.) and site technical groups
  • Liaises with the global brown fields exploration and site teams to ensure the effective alignment of strategic exploration programs and plans
  • Provides technical direction and guidance to global exploration geologists
  • Provides technical support to mine geologists for mine-to-mill reconciliation, grade control models, grade control systems and processes
  • Develops and maintains excellent rapport with internal and external stakeholders
  • Supports continuous improvement efforts
  • Performs technical audits to support business decisions and ensure compliance with statutory regulation as per legislation requirements.
  • Analyses information and prepare technical documents to support decision making; present recommendations and provide status updates to key stakeholders
  • Influences others to achieve project goals
  • Develops and maintains knowledge and expertise in relevant geological procedures through the study of publications, attendance of courses and conferences, exploration sites and mine visits as well as continued contact with industry peers

Provides technical guidance and mentoring for consultants and direct reports

Education and Experience

Education

  • Undergraduate degree geology or geological engineering
  • Additional specialized education of up to 2 years including masters level degree or equivalent
  • Membership in professional association, with a designation recognized under National Instrument 43-101

Experience

  • More than 12 years of related work experience, mostly in mining
  • Previous leadership experience

Skills

  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Well-developed technical report writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to quickly identify key technical and business issues
  • Must be self-directed and work well in a highly unstructured environment

Additional Information

  • Ensure that resource estimation work is compliant with National Instrument 43-101
  • Able to work in Canada and travel to countries where Kinross sites are located 

Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 25%, with trip durations typically one to two weeks
