This is an exciting time to join PanAust, a copper and gold producer in Laos with pre-development opportunities in Laos, Papua New Guinea, Myanmar and Chile. PanAust’s producing assets are the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, located in Laos and managed by our subsidiary company, Phu Bia Mining. Both of these operations are delivering strong production performance which is expected to rise steadily over the next few years. The strategic direction of the Company is to maximise returns from its producing assets while advancing pre-development projects that offer potential to sustain and grow the business in the long term.

We offer  attractive salary package and excellent rosters for both residential or fly in, fly out  employee that includes travel in company time and specially  housing and children’s education allowances are included in salary package of residential roster.  Our modern mine camps provide a range of Western and Asian food and sporting and recreational facilities, including football field, gym, pool tables and wet mess. 


This position is based at our Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, located approximately 120km north of the Lao capital, Vientiane.  Ban Houayxai is an open cut mine with a Carbon in Leach (CIL) process plant, producing approximately 100,000 oz gold and 780,000 oz silver annually.


Reporting to the Mine Geology Superintendent, you will be responsible for high quality ore control, estimation, geological processes and improvement projects that support BHX metal production. The BHX orebody is a low grade and complex orebody and therefore requires a senior geologist with demonstrated experience in similar roles. As a senior team member and expatriate you will also be responsible for leading by example and development of Lao geologists and technicians.


Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Implement and manage geology processes to a very high quality
  • Responsible for future ore and reconciliation improvement programs.
  • Plan, implement and execute the drilling programs
  • Perform geological mapping, wireframe and interpretation to enhance understanding of geological control on ore and waste
  • Provide grade control modelling with a strong focus on minimising ore perimeter design loss and dilution
  • Train and supervise Lao staff across mapping, wire-framing and domaining, database management and QAQC interrogation, grade control model creation
  • Manage reconciliation processes for identification of improvement areas
  • Drive improvement project in geology to ensure efficient and optimal orebody extraction


To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Degree qualification in geosciences
  • Demonstrated experience in a challenging and variable low grade orebody
  • Considerable experience in mine geology for an open-cut mining operation
  • Proven experience and understanding of Surpac, Datamine or similar mining software package
  • Strong skills in grade control modelling and geology processes coupled with excellent analytical and interpretation skills
  • Demonstrated capability in delivering improvements at a Senior level
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English
