This is an exciting time to join PanAust, a copper and gold producer in Laos with pre-development opportunities in Laos, Papua New Guinea, Myanmar and Chile. PanAust’s producing assets are the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, located in Laos and managed by our subsidiary company, Phu Bia Mining. Both of these operations are delivering strong production performance which is expected to rise steadily over the next few years. The strategic direction of the Company is to maximise returns from its producing assets while advancing pre-development projects that offer potential to sustain and grow the business in the long term.

We offer  attractive salary package and excellent rosters for both residential or fly in, fly out  employee that includes travel in company time and specially  housing and children’s education allowances are included in salary package of residential roster.  Our modern mine camps provide a range of Western and Asian food and sporting and recreational facilities, including football field, gym, pool tables and wet mess. 


This position is based at our Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, located approximately 120km north of the Lao capital, Vientiane.  Ban Houayxai is an open cut mine with a Carbon in Leach (CIL) process plant, producing approximately 100,000 oz gold and 780,000 oz silver annually.


Reporting to the Mine Technical Services Superintendent, you will focus on the provision of delivering excellent medium to long term mining plans at the Ban Houayxai (BHX) operation. BHX is a challenging mine site and the ideal candidate will have excellent design skills and demonstrated ability in motivating and delivering improvement projects associated with optimizing schedules, productivity and designs. Although this role has no direct reports, you will be required to provide strong technical support, coaching and mentoring to the relatively inexperienced, but very keen and willing, local Lao workforce. Your outstanding leadership and coaching skills will be critical to the ongoing development and performance of the relatively young, but very keen and willing, local Lao workforce. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for medium to longer term mine plans to support pit development and efficient and maximised metal outcome
  • Optimising schedules, designs and productivity to ensure continual improvement focus
  • Undertaking pit, ramp and dump designs as required
  • Reviewing all pit designs to ensure alignment to procedures, geotechnical requirements and no unnecessary waste movements
  • Ensuring drill and blast sequence adhere to medium term plans
  • Initiating improvements in drill and blast engineering areas
  • A key member of future ores and blasting improvement projects.


To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A degree qualification in Mining Engineering with considerable experience as a senior engineer in open cut operations
  • Demonstrated experience in low grade variable deposits as well as delivery of improvement projects
  • Strong planning and analytical skills
  • Strong experience in forecasts and developing a mining budget
  • Expertise in Surpac, MineSched software is an advantage
  • The ability to think outside the box
  • Highly motivated, self-driven and an excellent team player
  • Good leadership ability, with a commitment to developing our National employees
