Location: Republic, Washington, USA

Contribute to regional generative brownfields exploration for Kinross’ Echo Bay Exploration team. To conduct field work on exploration properties within NE Washington and Southern BC. 

Plan and execute exploration programs in the field (geophysics, geochemistry, mapping, prospecting, drill core logging, interpretation and modelling). Office based work would consist of regional compilation of high potential areas followed by more detailed reviews of the highest priority target areas. 

Oversee contractor work and may mentor junior geologists. Assure that the Kinross Environment, Health & Safety Standards at each project site is fully implemented and adhered too.

Job Description

To oversee activities related to the modeling and analysis of geological information or processes and to ensure service and / or operating standards are met (internally and / or externally). To design and develop processes, practices and methodologies in geology.

Job Responsibilities

• Independently handles geological interpretation and modeling
• Advises on a variety of internal and / or external requests regarding geographical modeling and grade control
• Contributes to the development of policies and practices related to geographical modeling and grade control
• Monitors costs related to mine geology and implements approved recommendations for maximizing operational efficiencies
• Investigates, researches, and analyzes information and issues related to geological modeling and grade control
• Identifies / analyzes areas of interest for potential exploration targets
• Prepares business cases regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders
• Prepares technical reports and documentation to ensure compliance with industry and operational requirements
• Assists with training and skill development on technical issues in mine geology
• Calculates ore reserves, defines geological structures and executes mine exploration programs

Education and Experience

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Geology. Graduate or post-graduate degree preferred. 
  • Formal professional or technical registration or being eligible to apply for such a designation 

Experience

  • 3-5 years of related work experience in the mining and mineral exploration industry 

Skills

  • In-depth understanding of Kinross’ processes is a definite asset
  • Has a strong working knowledge of exploration techniques and a thorough understanding of drilling and assaying techniques
  • Solid working knowledge of industry 3D software such as Leapfrog, Micromine or Vulcan, GIS software packages such as MapInfo or ArcGIS, as well as the Microsoft Office suite of programs

Reporting Relationships

• Provides training and guidance to entry level professionals
• Typically reports into the Chief Geologist
