Site Services Director / Directeur Services sur Site

Location: Tasiast, Inchiri region, Mauritania

Job Description

To lead the execution of the long-term TMLSA strategy for multi-discipline core business functions within Tasiast mine, including all of the following departments: Site Services, Supply Chain, Nouakchott Office and IT.

To ensure the optimal management of the logistics and interface management associated with the needs and requirements of the Project Team.

To formulate short and intermediate term business plans; ensuring alignment with the organization’s overall strategy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes short and intermediate term strategies that support growth of the Tasiast  Services to ensure Kinross meets its strategic objectives in Mauritania
  • Leads execution of strategies in the Service Departments to enhance current mine and plant practices and performance
  • Manages the human, financial and operational resources of the Service Departments
  • Manages, in collaboration of Functional Managers for Supply Chain and IT, human and  operational resources
  • Sets priorities and allocates resources
  • Manage succession plan, talent review and talent development in the Service department
  • Manages major commodity vendor contracts
  • Negotiates major contract issues relating to contract maintenance, operating material, etc.
  • Develops and implements business practices and policies within the Service Departments that align with the organization’s overall business strategy
  • Oversees the implementation of processes, policies, systems and practices within the Service Departments that maximize operational efficiencies and competitive advantage
  • Acts as a change agent and project sponsor for key initiatives; models organizational values, sets the cultural tone and prioritizes business goals
  • Leads the Continuous Improvement program within Service Departments utilizing the tools necessary to meet the management operating philosophy
  • Leads and manages a senior leadership team responsible for executing the Service Departments strategy
  • Sets performance targets and measures, monitors and manages overall performance of the function and direct reports
  • Builds the capabilities of the team to enhance the mine operation’s ability to achieve the financial and operating strategy; identifies succession role requirements and high potential talent and actively develops key talent
  • Responsible for short and long term planning, capital and operating budgeting, engineering and cost studies  and for equipment selection and acquisition and tending and awarding of major supply contracts
  • Manages the logistical needs and requirements, and optimizes the travel and accommodation needs associated with the  Project Team

Education and Experience

  • University degree
  • Additional specialized education of up to 4 years including masters level degree or equivalent
  • Formal professional designation in appropriate area of expertise (project lead, Continuous Improvement lead)


  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management in different languages; Arabic, English and French
  • Proven capacity in management and control of mine capex and apex spend, with strong skill-set to ensure strict spending controls
  • Strong ability to manage a quality Site services and measurement of the deliverables
  • Strong ability to develop talent of his teammate
